The Government’s Presidential Free Cotton Inputs Scheme has helped the vulnerable marginalised farmers who have been suffering from the high cost of inputs and low producer prices at the same time getting their yields affected by the negative effects of climate change. The farmers have responded positively by “going back to the fields” and are producing cotton whose volume has been constantly growing. Given that the output was on a free fall, the interventions by the Government came at the right.

Strong influence of textile substrates - The washing resistance of different graphite–polyurethane coatings with graphite contents between 25% and 33% on cotton, linen, viscose, and polyester woven fabrics was compared, using two different graphite particle sizes on diverse textile substrates, in a recent study. It was found that not only the graphite particle dimensions and graphite concentration strongly influence the longevity of the coatings, but also the textile substrates which were coated with the conductive mass.

Spinnova’s majority shareholder is Brazilian cellulose company Fibria, who invested 5 million euros into the company in 2017.The development of the Spinova fiber has surpassed expectations. Speaking with the district collectors, Rao ordered them to turn Cotton and ginning mills as cotton purchase centres like last year. He also released confidence saying that the cotton farmers will show interest to sell the cotton to CCI at MSP.

He also promised to sort all the issues by discussing with the ginning officials in Mumbai. He also ordered the marketing officials to make compulsory arrangements like providing the required machinery, computers and software at the purchase centre.

All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) Patron-in-Chief Gohar Ejaz said the government had recently halved tax rebates that stood at 4-7% and thus things turned unfeasible for textile producers. Ejaz said Pakistan had only adjusted its exchange rate by letting the rupee weaken, but it won’t impact national exports. He said that the rupee had been artificially stabilised at Rs 105 per dollar for the past five years.

Textile giant Arvind, is speeding up it’s efforts to localise end-to-end manufacturing of garments for global fashion brands. More than 80 per cent products of the brands that it sells are Made-in-India, so the impact of import duty hike will be marginal except in some areas. Addition to this the Ahmedabad headquartered company plans to open plants in Gujarat, Jharkand and Andhra Pradesh in a bid to cushion it’s verticalisation plans and decentralise manufacturing.

The yarn producers have urged the government to reduce import duties on the import of PSF from existing 7 percent to 2 percent as polyester prices have almost doubled in the last year. The meeting was also of the view that one of the main causes of the non viability of domestic polyester fiber chain is the protection extended to the obsolete PTA plant over the last 25 years.

Farmers in the state grew cotton in about 42 lakh acres this kharif, despite losses in the last season due to the virulent attack of pink bollworm. Malla Reddy said that, “Losses in Adilabad would be much higher as heavy rains lashed the cotton-growing district,” Telangana Rythu Sangham leader, Adilabad district recorded 1,112 mm of rainfall, while Jogulamba Gadwal district received the lowest rainfall of 216.7 mm. Official figures put the crop losses in Adilabad district at 1.25 lakh acres. He said that, “The rains were not well spread out and were not timely.

Cotton Corporation of India to obtain cotton from farmers in Rajasthan

The CCI has started arrangements for ginning and storage of cotton for the ensuing harvesting season. The central government had newly lifted the MSP on medium-staple fibre cotton by 28% to Rs 5,150 per quintal and long-staple by 26% to Rs 5,450. Traders expect that the hike would help firm up prices in India compared to the last season, when those were lower compared with the global market.
