Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry Tarek Kabil during the meeting with the board of directors of the Egyptian Chamber of Textile Industries (ECTI) in the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI) said the the ministry is currently preparing a national strategy for the textiles, spinning, and ready-made clothing industry. As textile exports has achieved a significant increase of about 12%, while imports declined by 59% this year compared to the same period last year.

Slow trading recorded at Karachi cotton exchange

The Karachi Cotton Exchange on Thursday recorded slow trading with only four transactions of 1,700 bales from the new crop at a price of Rs6,350 to Rs6,650/maund.

Trading included 1,000 bales from Shahdadpur, 400 bales from Tando Adam, 200 bales from Hyderabad and 100 bales from Burewala.

The spot rates decreased Rs50/maund to Rs6,300/maund (37.324kg) and Rs6,752/40kg. Ex-Karachi rates also dropped to Rs6,435/maund and Rs6,897/40kg after an addition of Rs135 and Rs145 as upcountry expenses, respectively.

Owing to favourable climatic conditions and high pricing of cotton , the planting of cotton crop has doubled in terms of area compared to the same period last year. As per the data released by the agriculture ministry, an unprecedented increase in cotton sowing has seen the area under kharif cultivation going up by nearly 20%.

With most parts of the country receiving good rains as the first month of monsoon activity comes to a close, there is an indication that sowing will pick up momentum in the coming weeks.

With spinners getting indulged in forward buying amid short supply position, prices recovered on the cotton market on Friday, dealers said. In the ready business, around 5000 bales of cotton changed hands between Rs 4500-6000 while in the Punjab, prices showed no change at Rs 3100 and Rs 3400. The official spot rate recovered majorly from Rs 100 to Rs 5,650.

Brazilian cotton prices in April 2016 increased by nearly ten percent due to firm demand, decrease in supply from important cotton growing countries like India, and China’s possible interest for imports. However, the volume of cotton already traded this season is little less than the volume sold in the same period last year.

The CEPEA/ESALQ Index, with payment in 8 days, for cotton type 41-4, delivered in São Paulo rose 9.66 per cent to 2.6680 BRL ($0.777) per pound on April 29.

Tajikistan supports proposal of Chinese company to build two cotton processing factories

Tajikistan’s Minister of Agriculture Qosim Rahbar at the end of the last week met Mr. Chen Dao Chuan, Director of Closed Joint-Stock Company (CJSC) Chuntai Dangara Sin Sil Textile where the two discussed issues related to bilateral cooperation in the field of agriculture, including cultivation and construction of two cotton processing factories in Tajikistan.

The new factories are expected to be constructed in the Dangara and Jilikul districts of the Khatlon province. The design works for the new factories are nearing completion, the ministry said on Monday.

The Punjab Mandi Board to bring more areas under cotton in Malwa belt has setup a cotton cleaning and drying plant the first of its kind. The capacity of the plant is six tons of cotton drying and cleaning per hour. The estimated cost involve in setting up this plant is of about Rs 2 crore at Malout.

The plant’s entire process of cotton drying and cleaning would not involve much cost as the project has been setup on no profit no loss basis.

Warangal farmers urge for biotechnology in cotton cultivation to increase production

Majority of farmers in Telangana state are engaged in cotton cultivation. In Warangal district, about 65 to 70 per cent of farmers cultivate cotton as main crop. Farmers in the Warangal district have urged the state government to help in making modern biotechnology based advancements in cotton cultivation available to cotton growers in Warangal as well as those in other districts of the state.

The Rythu Sangham leaders have urged the government to set up a cotton research centre and a textile unit in Warangal district for the benefit of farmers and to create employment opportunities.

Textile Park at Padalur likely to be operational soon

The Perambalur district administration is in the process of handing over 40.35 hectares of land for Textile Park coming up on Tiruchi-Chennai National Highway at Padalur to the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) – the implementing agency of the project.

Perambalur district, a major cotton growing district stands to benefit from the textile park.

The agency has written to the State government for getting administrative sanction for the project. After getting the sanction, SIPCOT would provide infrastructure facilities to the entrepreneurs.
