Textile exporters show displeasure with a rise in polyester prices

The yarn producers have urged the government to reduce import duties on the import of PSF from existing 7 percent to 2 percent as polyester prices have almost doubled in the last year. The meeting was also of the view that one of the main causes of the non viability of domestic polyester fiber chain is the protection extended to the obsolete PTA plant over the last 25 years.

Ujwal Lahoti, chairman, Cotton Textile Export Promotion Council said that, “Some policy measures like refund of embedded taxes (also recognised by the Economic Survey for 2017-18), extending the ROSL scheme which refunds state levies like value added tax and generation of captive power, mandi tax, duty on electricity, stamp duties on export documents, etc, and to expedite the refund of pending GST and IGST claims, and ROSL of exporters need to be considered on priority basis.”

A clutch of several Chinese exhibitors will set up stalls showcasing yarns, fabrics and garment accessories at a special Chinese Pavilion at the upcoming second edition of the Yarn, Fabric & Accessories Trade Show (YFA) Show which will run from November 23 (Wednesday) to 26 (Saturday), 2016.

To add an icing to the cake, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in a letter to the organizers expressed his happiness on the organization of the YFA 2016 show and sent his best wishes to the organizers and participants.

Pakistan's exports have come down by 12 percent against over $13 billion last fiscal year due to the incidentals of various taxes, levies and surcharges.

Lorry strike troubles the textile business

The nation-wide strike by lorry owners, which started on Thursday, created problems for textile business as well. The textile product movement to and from the units faced hindrances because of the strike.

Few mills that had imported cotton found it difficult to transport it to the unit from the port due to the strike, said M. Senthilkumar, Chairman of Southern India Mills’ Association.

Likewise, exporters were unable to dispatch the products from their units. The Centre should intervene immediately, he said.

Commerce Minister Khurram Dastagir after his separate meetings with the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma and carpet exporters on Monday said that the government after two years of consolidation was now in a position to facilitate the exporting sectors through incentives, market access and a viable long-term policy.
