Coats launches its new BCI certified cotton thread

British thread producer Coats has launched a duo of new 100 per cent cotton products, both of which have been certified by the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) according to the organisation’s sustainable raw material criteria.

The two new BCI-certified releases, Tre Cerchi Vero and Tre Cerchi Vero+, align with Coats’ 2022 sustainability strategy outlined earlier this year.

Melat and Rahel, both 24 years of age, completed their studies last year in the east African country of Ethiopia and landed their first job in an Indian textile company. They are among the 700-odd young men and women employed at KPR Export Plc. at Makelle, Ethiopia. They were trained at KPR’s Coimbatore manufacturing plant.

Australia has a fashion problem. More than 500,000 tonnes of clothing waste is sent to landfill each year. But a new way of recycling could redirect some of our unwanted textiles from polluting the environment, by repurposing cotton waste into anything from new clothes to prosthetic knees.

Developed by our team at Deakin University, where we work on designing materials and processes for a circular economy, this solution for recycling textiles involves dissolving cotton and regenerating it into brand-new cellulose – a complex, strong carbohydrate with many industrial uses.

Egyptian cotton exports reached 579,300 metric Kantar during the second quarter (Q2) of the agricultural season 2018/19 that starts from December 2018 and ends in February 2019, up from 379,700 metric Kantar during the same period of the previous season, an increase of 52.6%, according to Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The CAPMAS explained in its 2019 quarterly bulletin of cotton that this increase is due to an increase in cotton production.

A federal judge said Walmart Inc, Target Corp and Bed Bath & Beyond Inc must face a lawsuit claiming they sold linens that were falsely labelled “100% Egyptian Cotton” or “100% Long-Staple Egyptian cotton” despite being suspicious of their origin.

Monday’s decision by U.S. District Judge Vincent Briccetti in White Plains, New York, addressed claims that consumers nationwide overpaid for mislabelled cotton produced by an Indian textile company, Welspun India Ltd.

Some of the customers say ‘Kilo Stock’ sells clothes by the kilogram, trading garments at relatively inexpensive prices compared to what they would have cost at the brand shop itself.

Customer, Heba, was so pleased with her experience, she described the prices and variety as unimaginable.
