Fashion pact commits to certifaction of high impact materials

Thirty-two luxury, fashion and textile companies have signed a new commitment to protect climate, biodiversity and the oceans of the world, calling the new initiative the Fashion Pact.

Representatives presented the idea of the new agreement to the president of France, Emmanuel Macron, at a special meeting in Paris on August 23. Mr Macron arranged for the leaders of the G7 group of the wealthiest states in the world to see a presentation on the Fashion Pact during the G7 Summit in Biarritz, which takes place from August 24-26.

Man-made fibre (MMF) industry is contributing 2% to India’s GDP and providing jobs to over 18 million people directly and more than 20 million indirectly and technical textiles are expected to see a significant growth in coming time, according to a textiles export body.

Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council chairman Ronak Rughani said with an increasing focus on protecting environment, the demand for man-made fibre (MMF) textiles as a substitute for cotton is growing globally.

At present, a key HOFZET research focus is on composite reinforcements with a thermoplastic matrix – or organosheets – which offer reversible deformation and recycling potential in comparison with thermoset composite materials. The weaving loom enables the integration of thermoplastic matrix fibres into hybrid textiles as perfect thermoplastic prepregs. These prepregs can be shaped to a required form and turned into composites using hot pressing technology. This approach enables a reduction of process steps, cycle times and production waste, the company reports.

Strong influence of textile substrates - The washing resistance of different graphite–polyurethane coatings with graphite contents between 25% and 33% on cotton, linen, viscose, and polyester woven fabrics was compared, using two different graphite particle sizes on diverse textile substrates, in a recent study. It was found that not only the graphite particle dimensions and graphite concentration strongly influence the longevity of the coatings, but also the textile substrates which were coated with the conductive mass.

Grasim’s managing director Dilip Gaur said that, “Viscose is eating out of other fiber markets. Our domestic fiber business has grown by 22% (annually) during the March 2018 quarter,” adding that the bulk of the growth in the textile business is expected to come from the company’s VSF business in the future.On a consolidated basis, Grasim Industries will invest more than Rs13, 327 crore in capex into its textile and cement businesses till financial year 2021.
