Tajikistan to support textile and clothing industry

Tajikistan is also successfully executing the International Trade Center (ITC) program, targeted at supporting the development of the textile and clothing industry and improving the quality management infrastructure. A complete production cycle was organized, including the production of raw materials, spinning, fabric manufacturing, and the manufacture of garments and carpets, in the middle of the last century. The main products are fabrics and garments made from them, denim pants, shorts, textiles, carpet and leather products.

Edwin Keh Yee-man, chief executive of the publicly funded Hong Kong Research Institute for Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA), which developed the plant’s recycling system, said the move would put the city’s textiles industry back on the map and boost the “made in Hong Kong” mark. He said that, "We could have opened (this mill) in China, 10 times its current size," Also,"But we decided to do it in Hong Kong to prove two things – that we can solve our local textile waste problem locally, and that in such a small, compact city, sustainable (textile recycling) is feasible."

Textile giant Arvind, is speeding up it’s efforts to localise end-to-end manufacturing of garments for global fashion brands. More than 80 per cent products of the brands that it sells are Made-in-India, so the impact of import duty hike will be marginal except in some areas. Addition to this the Ahmedabad headquartered company plans to open plants in Gujarat, Jharkand and Andhra Pradesh in a bid to cushion it’s verticalisation plans and decentralise manufacturing.

Diversified group Raymond, one of India’s leading manufacturer and retailer of fabrics and garments is planning to ramp up its cotton fabric production capacity, despite subdued domestic demand and slowdown in the export market. In the next three years, Raymond will increase its current manufacturing capacity from 21 million to 46 million metres annually, through a new plant at Amravati and its existing plant at Kolhapur.
