The company plans to spend ₹4,257 crore of the ₹13,327 crore of capital expenditure towards brownfield expansion and debottlenecking of VSF plants.

Mr. Agarwal said that, “Our manufacturing input of caustic soda, power and steam and carbon disulfide are fully captive and we have control over 60% of the pulp requirements.”

Grasim has ensured control over 80% of the costs through backward integration, giving it an important competitive advantage over nonintegrated players.

It asked the farmers not to store the stalks of the cotton plant in the filed after harvest. It said the farmers should follow crop rotation and avoid ratoon crop for cotton.

It said that installing pheromone traps which uses particular chemicals which lure the insects at ginning mills. The insects thus collected could be killed by using any of the pesticides, as told. It also added that that pink bollworm, a common pest in cotton, could be got rid of by not allowing it to complete its life cycle by ensuring proper sanitation during ginning.

According to industry sources cotton stocks with small and medium-scale mills would be low. Internationally, China was said to be importing large quantities. Those who were buying for daily needs might be affected.

The mills that had covered cotton at the beginning of the season would benefit now. The mills fear that as the season comes to an end, the prices might go up further. Since cotton is the main raw material, the entire textile value chain will be affected.

The irrigation water crisis in Sindh is badly damaging sowing in the province as quoted by Syed Mudabir Shah who is a cotton broker.He also added that, “The reports coming from lower Sindh are not encouraging as majority of the farmers there do not have any other option to irrigate their fields except from canal water. These areas are facing water shortage for the first time in cotton sowing period.” He added that farmers in lower Sindh are not waiting for rains to complete their sowing process.

Farmers in the state would have to use BT seeds for the kharif season as the non-BT ones are not available in the market at present, according to industry experts. Maharashtra agriculture commissioner Sachindra Pratap Singh had stated the state has decided to stop renewal of licences for the long duration varieties and had notified seed companies to provide a list of short-, medium- and long-term varieties of cotton earlier this year. Singh said that CICR has recommended short-duration varieties of cotton and there are several such varieties of Bt cotton available in the market.

According to a recent data, India and Bangladesh are the main buyers of Pakistani cotton as textile mills were mainly purchasing cotton from Pakistan for the their raw material requirement. Officials said that Pakistan's textile exports went up by 7.2 per cent to $1.1 billion in February as against the same period last year. Pakistan's cotton yard exports posted a huge growth of 54.7 per cent in February.

Due to the depreciation of Pakistani rupees against the dollar by 10 per cent cumulatively from June last year, the margins of textile sector also increased.
