Textile parks held up owing to lack of environmental clearance and power shortage

The state textiles ministers’ conference was held on Tuesday to discussion on the status of integrated textile parks, launched with major concern for textile industry a couple of years ago. A statement was released at the meeting that about a dozen of textile parks in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Rajasthan are stuck with state governments.

These textile parks are being set up under public-private partnership during the 12th five-year plan as part of the government’s vision to push textiles exports to $300 billion by 2025 from the current $39 billion.

Kristi Täht is Estonian businesswoman and owner of the Estonian textile company K.Täht Holding OÜ, has acquired the knit fabrics factory Qualitex AS from Tolaram Group, which operates in the Pärnumaa county. The company's acquisition creates a bigger synergy on the basis of existing production capacity and sales network. Qualitex, currently has 90 employees working.

Higher arrivals of phutti (seed cotton) coupled with slow demand for cotton yarn kept spinners to the sidelines. While prices moved lower on the cotton market yesterday in Pakistan.

Lint prices are coming under more pressure with phutti arrivals gaining momentum with each passing day. On ready trading prices dropped by Rs150 to Rs200 per maund, brokers said.

Govindaraja Textiles to set up open end spinning unit with 35 tons of yarn a day capacity in the US

Shri Govindaraja Textiles, part of the Jayavilas Group, is setting up an open-end spinning unit in Eden, North Carolina. The spinning unit will have 16 machines and its production capacity will be 35 tonnes of yarn a day. The plant is expected to start production by the end of December this year.

Ramkumar Varadarajan, Managing Director, speaking at a roundtable discussion held here on Monday with Vinai Thummalapally, Executive Director of Select USA. Mr. Varadarajan said that they would be investing $45 million in this project.

China PE, PP likely to see fall in prices over excess supply and low demand

The Chinese domestic market for polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) likely to continue seeing decline in prices into October, as scheduled plant start-ups of Ningxia Baofeng Energy’s plant will boost supply, with not much upturn in demand, according to industry sources on Wednesday.

China’s PE-PP capacity is due to increase by a total of 600,000 tonnes/year in October, with start-ups of Ningxia Baofeng Energy’s plants in the Ningxia Hui autonomous region. The new PE and PP plants have the same 300,000 tonne/year capacity.

Cotton, which was quoted at Rs 40,000 per candy last Thursday, was trading at Rs 37,000 per candy (a candy of 356 kg) on Tuesday, registering Rs 3,000 drop in price, a decline by 7.5 percent per candy over the last four days owing to poor demand from yarn mills and following new arrivals of the crop in state like Punjab.

Pakistan textile industry exports are facing tough time in basic textile due to energy constraints, particularly in Punjab. It has been witnessing a downward from the last five months of 2014 (April-August) as per the latest data.

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Textiles Santosh Gangwar will discuss the provisions of the proposed New Textile Policy with States who will give their views on the proposals of a draft report on the New Textile Policy prepared by an expert committee which has already been circulated to them at the annual conference of State textiles ministers today.

Getting State Governments’ views on labour reforms is important as a number of important changes have been proposed in the textiles sector, said a Government official.

Ethiopia plans to set up enterprise linking cotton producers and textile industries

As the number of companies engaged in the textile industry has been increasing, the Ethiopian Textiles Industry Development Institute plans to set up a national enterprise that will help create linkage between cotton producers and textile industries.

Institute Director-General, Sileshi Lemma, said that the Enterprise will have the mandate to purchase, sell and store raw cotton. It is aimed at addressing challenges related to shortage of raw material supply.

This will help realize the country's plan to make the nation a preferable destination for textile companies.

Textile buying agents 80pc generates of export business urge relief from service tax

The Association of Buying Agents for Textiles has submitted a memorandum to the Union Finance Ministry seeking relief from service tax levied on them in the recent Budget. The textile buying agents so far were exempted from service tax, as it amounted to export of services and were earning foreign currency for the country, said M Anand, General Secretary of the association.

There are over 700 such agents across the country who play a vital role in garment exports as close to 80 per cent of the export business is generated through them.
