Pakistan has been trying to convince Turkey to waive off or reduce 42.2 percent duty it has imposed on Pakistani textile imports since 2011, but Turkey has always been coming up with a negative response. To this, the government has finally taken decision to end its efforts to convince Turkish government.

Karnataka State Khadi and Village Industries Board (KSK &VIB) has signed an MoU with National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) to help revitalize and revive khadi industry and popularize khadi among the younger generation.

NIFT would train clusters of artisans across the State to establish khadi as a brand. The project aims to train around 18,000 persons working in 160 khadi units. This will help to improve the life of skilled artisans as well as update them on the latest trends.

To improve the quality of cotton production in Pakistan, the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) on Friday. The MoU will supplement the efforts for mainstreaming production and consumption of BCI cotton in Pakistan.

The initiative also aims in achieving sustainability targets and increase the market access for textile products from Pakistan.

Aptma will be the Programme Promoting Agency within Pakistan to promote the initiative in line with the BCI’s Strategic Plan for the country.

Textile buying agents 80pc generates of export business urge relief from service tax

The Association of Buying Agents for Textiles has submitted a memorandum to the Union Finance Ministry seeking relief from service tax levied on them in the recent Budget. The textile buying agents so far were exempted from service tax, as it amounted to export of services and were earning foreign currency for the country, said M Anand, General Secretary of the association.

There are over 700 such agents across the country who play a vital role in garment exports as close to 80 per cent of the export business is generated through them.

E-tailer Flipkart to interact with weavers of Kashi to start the online pilot project

First meeting has been organized September 17 where e-tailer Flipkart officials will be interacting with the weavers of Kashi to understand each other and also discuss various issues related to handloom sector, said Tapan Sharma, deputy director, Weavers' Service Centre (WSC).

This will be the first meeting after an MoU signed between the e-tailer Flipkart and the development commissioner (handlooms) under the Ministry of Textiles to start a pilot project in Varanasi wherein the e-tailer will source handloom materials from local weavers.

Rwanda government and C&H, a Chinese based garment manufacturing company has entered into $10million (about Rwf7billion) new textile trade deal. Under the memorandum of understanding signed between them, the company will set up a garment manufacturing plant at the Kigali Special Economic Zone.
 
Following a new trade deal, Rwanda could start exporting textile garments to Europe and the USA. The factory is expected to start with over 1000 Rwandan staff but it projects to employ over 30,000 locals within five years.
