Campaign for wool by Prince Charles help revitalize Britain's wool industry

Prince Charles’ initiative to help sheep farmers has created a renaissance for the wool industry which is traditional textile that once made the country great. The Wool Project announced by Prince Charles has helped revitalize the industry by promoting wool as a sustainable material.

When the Prince of Wales conceived his Campaign for Wool crusade five years, bringing together all sectors of the industry, farmers were being paid less for a fleece than it cost to shear. Today wool prices have tripled.

Indian International Fabric Expo (IIFE) 2014 a three day exhibition to be held in Ahmedabad to develop and promote the exports of Indian textile products. International buyers from the SAARC, ASEAN, African, European and American countries are expected to visit the trade show.

The event is hosted by Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL) with support from the Union Ministry of Textile and under the Market Assistant Initiative Scheme of the Union Ministry of Commerce & Industry.

Raymond to invest Rs20cr in e-commerce venture which will include mobile apps

Raymond, the 89-year-old men's textile and apparel maker, would be investing Rs 20 crore to develop the e-commerce venture and has put in place a separate team. It is also coming up with a full-fledged virtual platform that will include mobile apps.

For this initiative, Raymond's flamboyant chairman Gautam Singhania has brought on board Vijay Basrur, a digital specialist who has had stints with startups like Quikr and Bazee.com.

Flipkart an e-commerce leader to promote and market handloom products made by the Chhattisgarh’s handloom weavers, as the Government of Chhattisgarh has entered into an agreement with Flipkart to promote handloom. This was informed by Chhattisgarh Rural Industries Minister Punnulal Mohle during the annual conference of state textiles ministers in New Delhi this week.

India has witnessed a surge of synthetic textile products imports from China after imposing an anti-dumping duty on a key raw material Purified terephtalic acid (PTA) which is used for making synthetic textile fibre, said Chemicals and Petrochemicals Manufacturers Association on Friday.

India imposed anti-dumping duties in the range of $19.05-117.09 a tonne on purified terephtalic acid from China, Korea, the European Union and Thailand. This was after a plea by Reliance Industries Ltd and Mitsubishi’s MCC PTA India Corporation.

The Government has decided to develop an integrated textile park during the current plan period and set up an incubation centre in the campus of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) to provide common services and facilities required for manufacturing textile and handloom products.

The decision was taken recently when Union Secretary of Textiles Sanjay Kumar Panda was on a visit to the State of Odisha.
