It is learned from the organizing committee that the exhibition invitation work is well under way for the fashion fair, the major event of the festival. So far, over 95% of the exhibition booths have been booked.

E-tailer Flipkart to interact with weavers of Kashi to start the online pilot project

First meeting has been organized September 17 where e-tailer Flipkart officials will be interacting with the weavers of Kashi to understand each other and also discuss various issues related to handloom sector, said Tapan Sharma, deputy director, Weavers' Service Centre (WSC).

This will be the first meeting after an MoU signed between the e-tailer Flipkart and the development commissioner (handlooms) under the Ministry of Textiles to start a pilot project in Varanasi wherein the e-tailer will source handloom materials from local weavers.

Podars submits Shakti mills revival plan of setting up weaving unit

The Podar family, which owns the defunct Shakti mills in Mahalaxmi, had earlier this year submitted the petition seeking renewal of the lease with the state government have told the Bombay High Court that their revival plans for the mill should not be derailed by such "stray incidents".

Submitting a revival plan for the mill that stopped functioning more than 30 years ago, the Podar family said that it will set up a weaving unit, including warehouses, which will provide immediate employment to 180 people.

A three-day jute fair organised by Jute Diversification Promotion Center (JDPC) in collaboration of the district administration for reviving the golden fibre’s past glory ended on upbeat note at Barisal Ashwini Kumar Hall yesterday night.

The fair which housed 17 stalls was inaugurated by the acting divisional commissioner Md Ibrahim on Thursday.

JDPC Monitoring and Extension Executive Mozahidul Islam said that they had succeeded in holding the fair because it had created huge interest among the public. Moreover, diversified jute products were sold up to the mark.
