Center likely to provide subsidy to power looms running on solar energy

As part of clean energy initiative, from August 15, power looms in the country will utilize solar energy for running their operations. Textile Minister Santosh Gangwar said that the Centre is considering to provide 50 percent subsidy to them.

The total subsidy to be given is Rs.3.75 lakh to persons belonging to the General Category, Rs.5.62 lakh for OBC category and Rs.6.75 lakh to SC/ST.

Union Textiles Minister Santosh Gangwar on Friday at a press conference talking about the Textile Ministry’s performance in the past two years said that under the scheme for integrated textile parks (SITP) implemented to stimulate development of infrastructure, 24 new textile parks have been sanctioned in the last two years, facilitating investment of Rs 4,500 crore and generating employment for 66,000 people.

Union Minister of State for Textiles (Independent Charge) Santosh Kumar Gangwar on Tuesday inaugurated Apparel and Garment Making Centre, one of the most ambitious projects launched in the textile sector by the government of India at District Industries Centre Complex, 6th Mile Dimapur in north eastern states. The project was inaugurated in the presence of State Chief Minister TR Zeliang and Additional Secretary Ministry of Textile, GoI Pushpa Subrahmanyam.

With government planning to announce a new textile policy by April this year with main focus on manufacturing of value added products and export oriented goods that will benefit the economy. The government is also expecting Rs.30,000 crore investment in 74 textile parks, said Minister of State for Textile Santosh Gangwar at Make in India Week held in Mumbai.

The government has given approval to 24 Textile Parks in the last one year, the rest were cleared by the previous government. So in total 74 textile parks will be set up, which will attract an investment of Rs 30,000 crore.

The central government has decided to set up 20 textile parks to boost textile industry in the country for which the centre is in talks with Uttarakhand and some other states so that land for these projects can be allotted. The proposed parks will eventually develop industrial hubs across the country, said Union Minister for Textiles Santosh Gangwar during his visit to Haridwar on Sunday to take feedback of people for the upcoming Union Budget.

While apparel garment units are being set up to promote the textile sector. A special emphasis is being laid on the technical textile sector.

The Minister of State for Textiles (independent charge), Santosh Gangwar, after inaugurating the India International Garment Fair (IIGF) organized by the Apparel Export Promotion Council on Wednesday said that the draft policy of the long awaited new textile policy is ready and discussions are on. They hope to place it before the Union Cabinet in a month’s time.

Union Textile Minister Santosh Gangwar in his written reply in the Lok Sabha, citing estimates of the Cotton Advisory Board stated that the exports from India for 2015-16 are likely to see increase by about 18 per cent compared with the previous fiscal year.

The minister further added that during the cotton year of 2014-15 (from October 1, 2014 to September 30, 2015), 57.72 lakh bales of raw cotton were exported as against 116.96 lakh bales during the cotton year of 2013-14.

The decline in exports was mainly due to substantial reduction in import by China, Gangwar said.

Union Minister of State for Textile, Santosh Gangwar addressing a national workshop on Integrated Skill Development Scheme in New Delhi on Thursday said the Indian textile industry needs a total of six crore skilled people by 2022.
