BASF SE to sell its textile chemical operations to Swiss chemicals maker Archroma which is owned by SK Capital Partners LP. The acquisition will bring together the century-old history of BASF textile-chemicals products, technologies and people with Archroma’s already strong heritage from Hoechst, Sandoz and Clariant.

Leading spinners including Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), Indorama as well as the local spinning units in and around the Surat, the country’s biggest man-made fabric hub have reduced yarn prices by almost Rs 15 per kg in different categories in the last one and a half month to encourage sale of yarn in the textile industry, but there are no takers.

The powerloom weavers in Surat have stopped purchasing yarn, the basic raw material required in the production of polyester fabrics, due to overproduction and the upcoming festival season.

A competition was started in 2000, designed to push farmers to produce an even finer fibre. In its 14th year, the competition was won by Australian farm Pyrenees Park in Victoria. Farmers Pamela and Robert Sandlant produced an 11-micron bale.

The Italian textile giant, Loro Piana, honours the breeders that produce the finest bale of wool, and then takes the fibre to produce just 40 bespoke men's suits.

This equalled the effort by New Zealand farmers Yvonne and Barrie Payne, from Timaru, however the Australian fibre was judged to be slightly stronger.

Concerns over supply cotton trading surged at six week high of 23,600 bales after rains in Punjab on Tuesday. If rain continues, the price of cotton likely to go further up.

The rains have slowed down picking of phutti (seed-cotton) in Punjab. It has also caused increase in price of cotton by Rs50 per maund (37.324 kilograms) to Rs5,450 per maund in the afternoon on Wednesday.

According to Taqi Abbas, a broker at the Karachi Cotton Exchange, uncertainty convinced textile mill-owners to buy big lots of the commodity.

DAK Americas is one of the largest integrated producers of PET resins in the world and the main producer of polyester staple fibers in the Americas. As part of its expansion plan, DAK Americas LLC (DAK) has announced a project to increase the polyester staple fiber (PSF) production capacity at its Cooper River site near Charleston, S.C.

The project will increase the capacity of the Cooper River facilitiy by 55 million pounds per year (lbs/year) across the company's current product line of textile and nonwoven PSF offerings.
