Paula Flannery will present a program titled “Spinning Cotton with a Charka and a Spinning Wheel” at the next meeting of the Humboldt Handweavers and Spinners Guild Thursday at 6:45 p.m. at the Wharfinger Building, 1 Marina Way in Eureka. The meeting is free and open to the public.
Flannery is a spinner, knitter and crocheter. She enjoys making dolls and blankets and spinning on her three spinning wheels. She raised sheep and wool for handspinning for over 40 years.
The 16th Dhaka International Textile & Garment Machinery Exhibition (DTG), also known as DTG 2019, will run January 9-12 at ICCB in conjunction with the 16th Dhaka Int’l Textile & Apparel Accessories Exhibition (DitaTex) and the inaugural Bangladesh Int’l Sewing Machinery & Accessories Fair (BISMA) to showcase complete textile and garment supply chains covering different processing stages from spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing and finishing to sewing and fabrics. Recent moves to improve confidence in the Egyptian Cotton logo include the introduction of a partnership with Bureau Veritas and a new rigorous accreditation process, which uses DNA testing to distinguish between genuine Egyptian Cotton and regular cotton. A training session at the eminent Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute VJTI in Mumbai on 17 May 2018 was addressed to future engineers. More than 220 textile manufacturing and mechanical engineering students followed the technical presentations. The VDMA’s contribution to improve the education of future customers and partners was very much appreciated.
