Cotopaxi launch in UK marks Europe debut

American outdoor apparel brand Cotopaxi has appointed Wales-based Unify Brand Partnerships to be Cotopaxi’s first European distributor. The partnership begins with the launch of Fall/Winter 2020 season and will focus on the UK and Ireland.

Cotopaxi has identified the UK as the next natural step for wholesale distribution, citing the country’s trendsetting consumers and innovative retail opportunities.

Interbrand released its Best Global Brands 2019 report, marking 20 years of the agency tracking the world’s most valuable brands. Sporting goods made a relatively sparse showing, with only Nike (up 7 spots to 16th place) and adidas (up 11 spots to 45th place) placing in the top 100 global brands.

Klopman get into the South African market

Klopman, a leading European producer of fabrics for workwear, has announced its entrance into the South African market. This follows an agreement to form a partnership with Servworx, the second largest workwear rental company in South Africa.

Servworx is a new generation services company with a significant presence in the healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, mining and construction, and security sectors. Servworx is Klopman’s inaugural African partner/customer, with the continent projected to be “a key driver of future global economic growth”, according to the manufacturer.

Nike powered by renewable energy

Nike has opened a new distribution centre powered entirely by renewable energy as part of its ambition to reduce its carbon footprint to zero.

The company says the 1.5 million square feet centre, called the Court, in the Belgian town of Ham, is fuelled by wind, solar, geothermal, hydroelectric and biomass power.

The Court’s rack-supported structure required less steel and concrete, minimising waste and reducing material used in the construction process.

Inditex demands should be welcomed by linen producers

The textile and sustainability manager at The European Confederation of Flax and Hemp (CELC), Marie Demaegdt, has said she welcomes targets fashion group Inditex has set for linen.

Inditex chief executive, Pablo Isla, told shareholders at a meeting in mid-July that, by 2025, 100% of the cotton, polyester and linen that goes into the products of Inditex’s eight brands (including Zara) will need to be organic, more sustainable or recycled.

October ethylene contract confirmed in Europe

In Europe, the contract price for ethylene has been confirmed at Euro 940 per ton an increase of Euro 15 per ton as compared to September.

Most of the producers were expecting increase in price due to increase in naphtha cost over the month, amidst a backdrop of balanced supply and demand.
Two other producers have been named as co-settlers but direct confirmation from both of them remains outstanding.

Meanwhile, discussions continue over next month’s contract price for propylene currently in a stalemate between two camps, one at €730/tonne and the other at €720/tonne.
