Debuts of Marc Rozier brand in China a turning point for Chinese silk industry

Wensli Group, silk company as part of its expansion plan into the international market has acquired Marc Rozier, a 120 year old silk scarf factory in France in 2013. The company marked a milestone of its internationalization on Friday in Hangzhou when it debuted its Marc Rozier brand.

Tu Hongyan, chairman of the group, said that the debut of Marc Rozier in China is a turning point for the Chinese silk industry.

The silk industry is a traditional industry in China and they are obliged to have the world recognize Chinese silk companies, she said.

Ethiopia Govt working out mechanisms to address cotton shortage

Ethiopia has been witnessing shortage of cotton since recent years which has become a challenge for the effectiveness of the textile industries. The Government of Ethiopia is working out short and long term mechanisms to address challenges facing the textile industry in terms of raw material shortage, said the Minister Ahmed Abitew, the Ministry of Industry.

The increasing demand for cotton among industries and low level of supply are the main drives for the shortage.

CMTA to be appointed to speed up mega powerloom cluster project in Surat

Cluster Management and Technical Agency (CMTA) will be appointed to develop Surat as powerloom mega cluster under 'comprehensive powerloom cluster development scheme (CPCDS) for which expression of interest (EOIs) have been invited by the Union textile ministry.

CMTA's role will be to identify the overall objectives of mega cluster scheme in the detailed conceptual report (DCR), diagnostic study report and detailed project report (DPR) with justification and supporting data.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will arrive at Bodh Gaya on October 28 and then a day later travel to Delhi for formal, substantive meetings. Cotton prices continue to decline in Pakistan market

Pakistan cotton prices ranged between Rs2,600 to Rs2,800 only for a brief period last month in lower Sindh region due to early picking and peaked at Rs3,200. After that the cotton prices continued to decline in Sindh while the picking of the crop would end latest by early next month.

Farmers get Rs2,400 per 40kg whether they sell phutti to middlemen or ginners directly. A major chunk of crop has been sold, and by mid October the remainder will be cleared by peasants in upper Sindh region which witnesses late sowing.

Cotton is the major source of Turkmenistan's export and raw material for dozens of modern enterprises of the dynamically developing textile industry of Turkmenistan. Turkmenistan allocated total area of 545,000 hectares for cotton production.

Ahal province is the leader among the country’s provinces, where almost 71 percent of the planned volume has been harvested.

Turkmenistan has harvested more than 64 percent, or over 676,000 metric tons of cotton to date, Turkmenpagta (Turkmen cotton) state concern said.

Cotton prices in India witnessed fall to lowest levels this year

Almost zero forward deals with exporters seen this season as China reduced its imports from India, record-high acreage as well as cotton production, along with dull demand from mills has resulted in fall in cotton prices and it will be the lowest in last one year.

Cotton prices have fallen to the lowest levels in the current cotton year (October 2013-September 2014), at Rs 33,000-34,000 a candy (356 kg). Demand for cotton in terms of exports will also be low.
