Uzbekistan will have thirteen new cotton-textile production enterprises start working in autumn 2018. At the new production facilities, the procurement process will be organized in such a way that contracts will be concluded directly with dehkan farms and landowners.

Until now the mechanism for purchasing raw materials from the “first-hand” was not available.
According to the Uzbek Ministry of Finance, the price for raw cotton will be established on a contractual basis grounded on the costs of the producer, but they cannot be lower than the state wholesale price.

Uzbekistan, the world’s sixth-largest cotton producer has signed large contracts for the export of finished textile products and semi-finished products for more than $1 billion with companies from Russia, Turkey, South Korea, Singapore, Moldova and other countries, following the 13th International Uzbek Cotton and Textile Fair.

Uzbek by exporting this strategic crop.aims to further increase incomes to the national economy. Representatives of foreign purchasing companies noted the quality and price parameters of Uzbek textile.

Uzbekistan announces construction of a new technical textile training and research park in the territory of Tashkent textile institute. The total project amounts is to the tune of US$15 million. The project is implemented by Ozbekyengilsanoat JSC jointly with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea. The completion of the techno park construction is scheduled for 2018.

The facility, set to open in the country’s capital in 2018, is expected to raise the profile of textile developments across both Uzbekistan and South Korea.

Uzbekistan, the Central Asian country has started focusing on production of finished textile goods rather than of raw cotton. It is slowly trying to transition away from its traditional strength of cotton farming going on for generations. As, cotton farming requires a huge amount of water, a great difficulty for dry Uzbekistan.

Though the Uzbek economic picture has evolved, cotton remains key crop. Last year, the area planted under crops in Uzbekistan totalled almost 3.6m ha for which cotton occupied 1.3m ha, about 36%.

Uzbekistan the world's fifth largest cotton exporter reports having exported $1 billion worth of textile products this year. The announcement was made shortly after the United States criticized the tightly-controlled Central Asian country for failing to stop using forced labour in its cotton fields.
