At the State committee meeting of the Tamil Nadu Visaithari Thozhilalar Sammelanam held at Pallipalayam, on Thursday, a resolution was adopted to improve the financial position of the societies and the powerloom weavers. At the inauguration of the fourth edition of the buyer-seller meet-cum-powerloom product mela ‘TEXPO – 2015,’ jointly organized by the Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL) and the Regional Office of the Textile Commissioner under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. PDEXCIL’s Chairman, M. Duraisamy, called upon the powerloom weavers to avail themselves of government assistance.

Many warp knitters have lost huge amount of money to the defaulters in the textile markets to rein in defaults the warp knitters have begun offering the textile traders and brokers one percent discount for clearing payments within 10 days of the purchase.

The South Gujarat Warp Knitters' Association (SGWKA) is a body of industry members representing the warp knitting community in a public notice issued on Thursday also stated that making payments after 25 days from the date of purchase will be liable to pay 18 percent interest on the outstanding dues.

Powerloom weavers from Sachin GIDC and Hojiwala Estate have unanimously decided not to enter into any business deal with merchants who do not provide valid references of traders from respective markets in the city as there is rising number of defaults in the textile market.

This has forced at least 2000 powerloom weavers to devise a new way of doing business in the market. Now, fabric merchants and traders will have to furnish valid references of prominent traders from the market to purchase unfinished fabrics from the weavers.

The Union ministry of textiles to provide powerloom weavers yarn at concessional rate has formed two special purpose vehicles (SPVs) namely Ved Road Art Silk Small Scale Cooperative Federation Limited and Pandesara Weavers Cooperative Society Limited for setting up India’s first yarn bank under the Integrated Scheme for Powerloom Sector Development ( ISPSD).
