Pakistan textile firms being trained to avail maximum benefit from GSP Plus status

Pakistan is facing a challenge to turn the GSP Plus conditions into an opportunity as textile companies although best but unaware of how to avail the duties and tax concession under GSP Plus given by the European Union to Pakistan.

To put this is place Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), along with a foreign consultant, has shortlisted seventeen textile companies to guide them about availing the maximum benefits from the generalised scheme of preferences (GSP) plus status.

Turkish textile industry players not finding enough Turks to work for them are now focusing to bring over Bangladeshi workers to Turkey, said Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporter Associations (IHKIB) head Hikmet Tanrıverdi.

According to Tanrıverdi, they cannot find Turkish blue-collar workers to hire in their factories at the minimum wage, as a majority of them prefer to work in the services sector for the same amount of money in a cleaner working environment.

Pakistan Textile policy fails to get approval despite negative growth in textile exports

The new textile policy of Pakistan which carries measures to increase country’s textile exports to $26 billion by the year 2019 is yet to get approval. It’s being delayed despite the fact that textile exports showed negative growth during the first quarter of the current year.

A well-placed source in the ministry of textile industry said that the five-year textile policy will carry support schemes worth Rs85bn in a period of five years. The new policy will be effective from July 1 focusing on value-addition.

The Kuttch Mahotsav, organised by the Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India Ltd (CCIC), is the first step towards promoting crafts from the region. Textiles Minister Santosh Gangwar today inaugurated "Kuttch Mahotsav", a theme-based festival entailing exhibition-cum-sale of handicrafts from the region.

In an endeavor to promote handicrafts and handlooms, the government had announced setting up of a handicraft mega cluster in Kuttch, which will focus on hand-crafted items and craft-based textiles.

Gerd Müller, Germany's Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), launched a new Textiles Alliance in Berlin on Thursday. Its goal is to help move the international textile supply chain toward better labor and environmental practices. But many key players are refusing to join.

Müller's ministry wants to see improvements at every link in the supply chain - from the cotton fields through the textile dyeing and clothing production process to distribution and retail.

First Jiangsu Textile Expo to be held in China

Suzhou, the ninth most populous city in mainland China well-known for its silk in Jiangsu Province, yesterday launched the 1st Jiangsu Textile Product Expo, a three day expo held in the city’s Wujiang District where most local textile companies are located, seeks to integrate with Suzhour, Shanghai and other surrounding areas by attracting investments and operative projects.

The Jiangsu Textile Product Expo aimed to showcase the competence of local companies and seek trading partners.
