Arville gives a fresh angle to technical textile

Arville, headquartered in West Yorkshire, UK, has strengthened its specialist capabilities with the installation of a wide-width bias cutting machine at its Wetherby site. The investment – part of a continuous improvement programme – will allow technical fabrics woven in tubular form to be converted more quickly and efficiently, according to the manufacturer.

Arville Textiles has recently taken delivery of a new wide-width bias cutting and winding line in order to meet the demand for advanced technical textiles that are employed in a range of components by the aerospace and automotive industries.

The line is being supplied by Svegea of Sweden, a member of TMAS, the Swedish textile machinery association.

Recent moves to improve confidence in the Egyptian Cotton logo include the introduction of a partnership with Bureau Veritas and a new rigorous accreditation process, which uses DNA testing to distinguish between genuine Egyptian Cotton and regular cotton. The international collaborative research, which includes experts from the Centre for Graphene Science at the University of Exeter, the Universities of Aveiro and Lisbon in Portugal, and CenTexBel in Belgium, is published in the scientific journal Flexible Electronics.

The new research instead integrates the electronic devices into the fabric of the material, by coating electronic fibres with light-weight, durable components that will allow images to be shown directly on the fabric.

Professor and head of department, textile technology, PSG College of Technology, G. Thilagavathi said there were a few units in the country that did three-dimensional fibre weaving. The number is few as functionalities in three-dimensional weaving using these fibres are different and the units need to have the requisite technology and machinery for the purpose. In normal textiles, the price realised is minimum. In fibre assemblies, which can be converted into high-performance products, the realisation is much higher.
