Strong attendance affirms combined show’s industry-leading position in the region. ITMA ASIA + CITME 2018, the region’s leading textile machinery exhibition, ended successfully after five days of exciting product demonstrations and business networking.

The sixth combined exhibition welcomed visitorship of over 100,000 from 116 countries and regions, with an increase of 10 per cent from domestic visitors compared to the 2016 show. About 20 per cent of the visitors came from outside of China.

The DuPont and Gelvenor Textiles brands are both synonymous with trust. China is the world's largest cotton importer, bringing in over 1.1 million tons last year. Ruichang Tech operates in several African countries and has an annual output of at least 100,000 tons of unginned cotton - before the fiber is separated from the seeds and waste material - and 1,200 tons of cotton yarn. Every ton is shipped to China as raw material for the textile industry.

The APTMA spokesman has expressed alarm over the cut of regulatory duty on the import of cotton yarns from 10% to 5. The duty was charged to restrict strident increase in import of undervalue and subsidized cotton yarn entering in our domestic commerce. APTMA spokesman termed it as contrary to the cascading principle of tariff, saying that the domestic spinning industry is fighting for its survival as both its major raw materials i.e. cotton and Polyester Staple Fibre are strained with the imposition of import levies despite shortage in domestic production.

ITMA ASIA + CITME 2018, Asia’s foremost trade fair dedicated to textile machinery, is once again marked by a significant presence of German companies both in their number and in the quality of their technology. While bringing high standards to the task of reducing Thailand’s waste problems, the companies will focus on developing products that are less environmentally damaging. The American start-up AlgiKnit makes fibers from kelp that can be spun into yarn. AlgiKnit offers a solution that could transform the highly polluting textile industry into a circular economy by using biomaterials. After having been used, this seaweed textile can serve as compost or animal feed. It also reduces the carbon footprint of the clothing industry, because no harmful fiber particles are lost during washing, such as is the case with polyester. The company is working on a prototype of a T-shirt and sneakers will be next.

Within the textile network PlasTexTron©, Starlinger recycling technology is searching for an ecologically and economically sound solution for the recycling of mixed textile waste of multi-material composition. Three universities and eight Austrian companies are involved in the COIN-project TEX2MAT, which is led by the Plastics Cluster of ecoplus, the business agency of Lower Austria, and funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs (BMDW).

"China's textile industry urgently needs to figure out how to face the challenges brought by the new era of reform and opening-up," said Sun Ruizhe,
president of the China National Textile and Apparel Council. He added that "technology, fashion, green" has become the new label for China's textile and garment industry. He said the fashion hub should cultivate its own Chinese cultural characteristics to make it distinct and unique.
