Under the tutelage of my grandmother, I once attempted to knit a peggy square. Just once. The tedium of knitting nearly drove me mad with boredom: swapping loops of wool back and forth from one needle to the other, with nothing to look forward to but more of the same, for row after endless row. And the result of all that teeth-gritting effort? A gangly woollen shape of uncertain geometry, composed entirely - although surely, this can't be possible? - of holes.
The second annual Apparel Textile Sourcing Miami (ATSM) show kicked off on Tuesday at the Mana Wynwood Convention Center with great fanfare and drawing record attendance. More than 1,200 visitors passed through the show doors on opening day alone, with 3,500 more expected on day two for Fashion Day, which will be headlined with a designer fashion seminar series and a fashion show extravaganza showcasing the designs of the Magic City’s “local heroes.”
Paula Flannery will present a program titled “Spinning Cotton with a Charka and a Spinning Wheel” at the next meeting of the Humboldt Handweavers and Spinners Guild Thursday at 6:45 p.m. at the Wharfinger Building, 1 Marina Way in Eureka. The meeting is free and open to the public.
Flannery is a spinner, knitter and crocheter. She enjoys making dolls and blankets and spinning on her three spinning wheels. She raised sheep and wool for handspinning for over 40 years.
The 16th Dhaka International Textile & Garment Machinery Exhibition (DTG), also known as DTG 2019, will run January 9-12 at ICCB in conjunction with the 16th Dhaka Int’l Textile & Apparel Accessories Exhibition (DitaTex) and the inaugural Bangladesh Int’l Sewing Machinery & Accessories Fair (BISMA) to showcase complete textile and garment supply chains covering different processing stages from spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing and finishing to sewing and fabrics. The event is jointly organized by Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) and Yorkers Trade and Marketing Service Co., Ltd.
ITMA ASIA + CITME 2018, Asia’s foremost trade fair dedicated to textile machinery, is once again marked by a significant presence of German companies both in their number and in the quality of their technology. Visitors to the fair will have an opportunity to appreciate the high level of technology being proposed by more than 100 exhibitors from Germany, including more than 80 VDMA member companies. They cover nearly all different machinery chapters with a focus on spinning, nonwoven, weaving, knitting, warp knitting and finishing.

Textile product innovations in the LEISUREE.FASHION sector have been extremely promising. At one of KARL MAYER’s 80th anniversary celebrations, an unusual, stretch fabric for shapewear brands was being produced on an MJ 52/1 S. This fabric is lighter and more feminine than normal fabrics, creates transparent and opaque effects and, with its relief-like, superimposed design, is reminiscent of lace. A dense fabric with a light, two-way-stretch ground produced by the jacquard bar and the stitch-forming ground bar at the rear was also being produced on the MJ 52/1 S.
The 19th China Yiwu International Trade Fair for Textile and Garment Industry (YiwuTex 2018) has successfully concluded on 19 May 2018 at the Yiwu International Expo Centre, Zhejiang, China. The one-stop sourcing and information fair is co-organised by Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd., Yiwu China Commodity City Exhibition Co., Ltd. and Jinhua Printing Industrial Association.
The TEA President said he had already met Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani over the issue, with a request to mandate that Cotton Corporation of India ensure availability of enough quantity with desired quality to protect the interests of farmers, the textile industry and also to generate employment.
