With the supply of textiles from Uzbekistan to Russia increasing by 22 percent in 2017, both countries Russia and Uzbekistan aims to further expand cooperation in textile industry which is a strategic centerpiece of the Uzbek economy due to the fact that Uzbekistan is the world’s sixth-largest cotton-growing country producing about 1.1 million tons of cotton fiber annually.

Thrace-LINQ, a global supplier of fabrics for the textile industry plans investment of $9 million to expand its Dorchester County operations and will be also adding equipments. This is expected to create at least 10 new jobs.

The facility is located at 2550 West Fifth North Street in Summerville, S.C., Thrace-LINQ will begin the installation of a state-of-the-art production line in early 2018. Hiring for the new positions should begin in the second quarter of 2018.

Cotton also know as ‘white gold’ is a significant export product of Turkmenistan and is a demanded raw material for dozens of modern companies of the dynamically developing textile industry in the country. It is planned to produce 1,050,000 tons of cotton in Turkmenistan in 2017. It is currently harvest time in the country.

Turkmenistan plans to harvest 1,05 million tons of cotton, particularly in Akhal velayat – 207,000 tons, in Dashoguz velayat – 230,000 tons, in Lebap velayat – 300, 000 tons, in Mary velayat – 313 ,000 tons.

The textile industry are unable to book orders due to lack of clarity on the duty drawback rate and Rebate of State Levies (ROSL) on export of garments and made up textile articles, and this could impact India’s textile exports, said P Nataraj, Chairman, the Southern India Mills Association (SIMA).

For the textile industry second half of September could be a crucial period as the government is yet to give a mandate to the duty drawback committee on the revised duty drawback rate and Rebate of State Levies (ROSL).

The workshop will also organize a product-cum-catalogue show. Amit Chopra from the ITAMMA said that it would be 19th product-cum-catalogue show of the association and such shows had received overwhelming response.

The government of Rwandan in a bid to ensure continued duty free access to the US market has began discussion with the United States on the review of the American Growth and Opportunities Act (AGOA). Rwanda Development Board Chief Operating Officer, Emmanuel Hategeka said that they are in talks with the US to ensure Rwanda is not locked out of the trade window.

He said that they are talking to their partners in the US as they value their trade and relations with the US and they are doing all that is possible not to be out of cycle and of course they have been engaging on the issue.

Members of the National Assembly Standing committee on Textile Industry has come up with recommendations in an attempt to offer incentives to the garments industry and its small units, which would help them enhance their value-addition capacity, promote and facilitate garment exports.

The move comes at a time when Pakistan’s overall exports have gone down from around $24 billion to around $20 billion per annum over the past few years of which textile exports constituted more than half of the total shipments.
