The Cotton Crop Assessment Committee (CCAC) after several revisions had finally set a target of 12.36 million bales for 2013-2014. However, the current production statistics depict that cotton output will be higher than last year's. The country's cotton output is likely to surpass 13 million bales mark against last year's production of 12.9 million bales. The final production report will be issued by Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) in mid March.

The sari industry in Tangail pushed into deep trouble due to the prevailing political crisis has forced factory owners to shut down many handlooms, leaving thousands of weavers jobless. The industry in the district has around 75,000 handlooms and employs over 2 lakh weavers.

Raghunath Basak, president of the Tangail Sari Association and a weaver at Pathrail urges the government to resolve the political crisis to save the traditional sari industry.

India set to boost its textile & clothing industry and raise its share in world export as which Industry body FICCI has recommended some measures like labour reforms and keeping textile industry under the lowest slab of GST.

These recommendations have been submitted to National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council Member Secretary Ajay Shankar, who is also the Chairman of Expert Group on National Textiles Policy constituted by Government of India.

The Surat textile industry expects an additional business of at least Rs 50 crore from the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. This time, the industry is eyeing vigorous business, the orders are expected to start pouring in after January 14 and complete by February-end.
