Singtex launches new sustainable fabrics

Singtex highlighted its environmentally-friendly products at this year’s Taipei Innovative Textile Application Show (TITAS). The Singtex exhibition focused on Airmem coffee oil membrane, Stormfleece single-layer woven fleece fabric, and the collaboration between Itochu S.Cafe and Renu garment recycling.

Fibre manufacturer Hyosung will be presenting an updated collection of its recycled fibres at the upcoming Intertextile Shanghai show (September 25 to 27), including its first innovations in recycled spandex.

It claims its recycled yarns offer the same performance levels as its standard products.

The South Korean group will also show its cooling fibres, mipan regen aqua x nylon and regen askin, and its natural touch polyester cotna fibre. It will also focus on creora Color+, a spandex that provides vibrant colours for nylon.

Swiss textiles brand ZigZagZurich produces a range of artist-designed blankets

Woven in 100 per cent New Zealand wool in Scandinavia, the blankets are made using twisted yarns that give them blankets a unique multicolour effect – which the brand likens to the effect of looking through a kaleidoscope.

"To weave the blankets we used two yarns with the same thickness but in the different colours," said ZigZagZurich. It explained that, "The yarns are twisted together and then woven. The beauty that comes out of this artistic choice is a kaleidoscopic game of colours and the creation, at the same time, of a pattern which cannot be controlled.”

This project offers a new CFRP manufacturing process when compared to the two other typically deployed processes which have significant drawbacks that limit their mainstream, high-volume use in the automotive and aerospace industries. Major retailers are backing the Cotton Egypt Association’s drive to rid the supply chain of falsely labelled Egyptian Cotton goods. John Lewis and Dunelm, have spoken in support of CEA’s new rigorous accreditation process and ability to DNA test products, and say they will continue to insist suppliers adhere to the new standard. Manufacturers who do not meet the new criteria will no longer be licensed to produce Egyptian Cotton products or use the trademarked logo, the association explains.

Work on garment industrial park will start this summer on a new 492 acre which will provide a home for 300 factories and generate around US $3 billion annually in export revenues, said the Bangladesh garment manufacturers and export association.

The BGMEA claims the park will place an emphasis on sustainability, including connecting factories located at the park with a modern Central Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) for the disposal of industrial liquid and sewerage water.
