Refibra hits 30% recycled raw materials target

Lenzing Group hit a new milestone with its Refibra technology, according to the company, with a 30% increase in recycled raw materials. This means the Tencel-branded Lyocell fibres can feature up to 30% of pulp made from upcycled cotton scraps collected from garment manufacturing processes.

Lenzing launched the Refibra brand in February 2017. It is based on the group’s Tencel fibre, with the addition of cotton scraps and wood. The fibres, part of the Tencel Lyocell fibres of low fibrillation properties, have enhanced breathability and are especially well suited to knitted applications.

East Chinese nylon production giant breaks ground

A giant production site broke ground on Monday in east China's Shandong Province, with an annual production capacity of 1 million tonnes of new nylon materials.

With a total investment of around 20 billion yuan (around 2.83 billion U.S. dollars), the site covers an area about 200 hectares in the city of Zibo.

It will also have an annual production capacity of 500,000 tonnes of hexanediamine, 500,000 tonnes of adiponitrile and 500,000 tonnes of acrylonitrile.

DOMO Chemicals to acquire Solvay's business in Europe

DOMO Chemicals and Solvay have signed today an agreement for DOMO to acquire Solvay’s Performance Polyamides Business in Europe. This includes Engineering Plastics operations in France and Poland; High Performance Fibers in France; Polymer and Intermediates operations in France, Spain & Poland. The agreement also involves a joint venture between BASF and DOMO in France for the production of Adipic Acid. The Business comprises Production, Sales, Technical Support, R&D and Innovation services which currently have a combined headcount of approximately 1100 employees.

Polyester fabric production falls by half

With production on a nosedive, all is definitely not well in the country’s largest man-made fabric (MMF) hub. Polyester fabric has decreased production by almost half from 13,000 metric tonne (MT)to 7,500MT per annum.

The continuing contraction in international and domestic cotton prices following higher global production and a decline in domestic output is likely to boost imports further this year, says a report. The gap or spread between global and domestic cotton prices has been on a declining trend owing to higher production in Brazil and China, coupled with a fall in domestic production, says an India Ratings report Tuesday.

Beverage-producing powerhouses PepsiCo, Nestlé Waters and Suntory Beverage & Food Europe are the three latest large-scale firms to join a consortium designed to tackle plastic waste.

The initiative, founded by bioindustrial innovator Carbios and cosmetics firm L’Oréal, seeks to promote Carbios’ PET-enhanced recycling technology; bringing it to scale and opening the process up to the mass market within four years.

Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) Chief Coordinator Ijaz Khokhar advised the government to split the textile sector into three categories namely raw material, home textile and apparel adding that the sector presently comprises of multiple sub-sectors, all having different functions and activities. The chief coordinator further stated that the value-added garment sector of the textile industry showed a growth of 11.22% in 2017-18.

Within the textile network PlasTexTron©, Starlinger recycling technology is searching for an ecologically and economically sound solution for the recycling of mixed textile waste of multi-material composition. Three universities and eight Austrian companies are involved in the COIN-project TEX2MAT, which is led by the Plastics Cluster of ecoplus, the business agency of Lower Austria, and funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs (BMDW).
