Government working out plans to set up 25 more textile parks in India

Union Minister of State for Textiles Santhosh Kumar Gangwar on Sunday at the 25th year celebrations of the Tirupur Exporters’ Association announced that the Government is planning to announce 25 more textile parks shortly to provide high quality infrastructure for the textiles and clothing sector.

These 25 projects are to be from the 49 proposals received now before the Ministry, seeking approvals for setting up the textile parks. The applications are being examined.

The revival in yarn demand from China is a good omen for the Pakistan textile industry giving a boost to textile exports. The resurge in yarn demand has come as a sign of relief for the exporters who were worried over the waning global demand during the past one year, according to Seth Akber, senior vice chairman of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma).

The new Textile Policy 2013-18 recently announced by the Karnataka state government aims to attract investment worth over Rs 10,000 crore in the sector during the five-year policy period but a growth close to three times over the previous policy period, create jobs for about half a million during the new Textile Policy period with majority of jobs in the rural areas and also make the State a preferred textile destination, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said.

A meeting of textile ministers of all states would be convened in September end to fine tune the draft textile policy, so that the Union government can soon come out with a national textile policy, Minister of State for Textiles Santosh Kumar Gangwar said at the inauguration of the silver jubilee celebrations of Tirupur Exporters’ Association (TEA) in Tirupur.

A textile venture capital fund would be set up with an initial capital of Rs. 35 crore, which would be scaled up further, the MoS said.

Pakistan textile exports recorded a 2.37% decline in July over the same month of the previous fiscal year and a month-on-month drop of 7.89% in July alone. The Fashion Designers' Association of Nigeria (FADAN), Lagos Chapter has proposed a production hub which is going to be like a meeting point for key players. To build the production hub in Lagos the association would require about N150 million.

Mr Kolawole Kuddus, the State Coordinator of the association, said that the production hub would also include a retail store that would display finished clothing items and accessories made by Nigerian fashion designers and pattern makers.
