The Karnataka state government is holding ‘Invest Karnataka -2016’ for three days from February 3 for attracting investment from domestic and global firms. The government will be making every effort at Invest Karnataka 2016 to encourage investors to move away from Bengaluru and give impetus to tier-II and tier-III cities. Investors will go to small towns because of availability of human resources, land and labour.

A workshop on Karnataka Industrial policy – 2014-19 , organised by the district industrial centre was inaugurated by Minister for Social Welfare and district in-charge H. Anjaneya on Saturday, where it was informed that the State government has decided to establish textile parks in every taluk of the State to encourage youths to become entrepreneurs and become self-dependent.

The Karnataka state government has steps to develop the textile sector is contemplating the launch of “Vastra bhagya” to hand out handloom sarees for women and dhotis for men belonging to BPL families on the occasion of two or three major festivals in the next fiscal, according to minister for textiles Babu Rao Chinchansur.

The minister said that there were 1.25 lakh working power looms, 75,000 working hand loom and around 10,000 manual looms at 1,000 co-operative societies. These units could produce sufficient quantity of hand loom sarees and dhotis for one crore plus BPL families.

The new Textile Policy 2013-18 recently announced by the Karnataka state government aims to attract investment worth over Rs 10,000 crore in the sector during the five-year policy period but a growth close to three times over the previous policy period, create jobs for about half a million during the new Textile Policy period with majority of jobs in the rural areas and also make the State a preferred textile destination, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said.
