Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his international bilateral trip to Japan starting Saturday is expected to meet Uniqlo Chairman Tadashi Yanai to carry forward their discussion on the retailer's multi-billion dollar India investment plan. The Union textiles ministry is planning to freeze capacity of B Twill jute bags based on the recommendation made by Jute Commissioner Subrata Gupta, who had advocated freeze in capacity since internal consumption of jute bags was lower than the actual capacity. The jute bag capacity likely to freeze at 2.59 million bales (one bale is 180 kg) for 2014-15.

Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles, Autumn Edition 2014 will be celebrating its 20th anniversary and is likely to be biggest ever fair opening this week. It will be using 150,400sqm space and 13 halls with around 1,350 exhibitors from 31 countries and regions participating along with nearly 1,000 domestic exhibitors will also showcase at the fair. The Fair is looking ahead to attract around 40,000 buyers.

The Pakistan Ministry of Textile is ready with its new textile policy 2014-15 having future strategy for the industry and also comprises a plan to facilitate smaller units for the economic development of the country. The new textile policy is set to be announced in the first week of September.

Kanwar Usman, the spokesperson for the ministry, said that the policy will be comprehensive and an amount of Rs82 billion has been allocated for the ministry in the budget this year.
