Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday, speaking on the Maiden 'Make In India' Week which is to begin in Mumbai from February 13 stated that the Make in India Week would address the issue of agrarian crisis in Maharashtra, A dedicated seminar on textile industry is aimed at cherishing the dream of 'from farm to fashion', which would help state's cotton growers.

The CM also said that cotton growers in Vidarbha, Marathwada and parts of North Maharashtra would benefit from the textile policy and that the government would be creating textile parks.

Maharashtra state government has identified ten viable districts on the basis of cotton availability for the textile parks of which the state government has approved nine new textile parks throughout the state to boost the textile sector of this two are in Vidarbha, and the rest in Marathwada and Jalgaon district of north Maharashtra.

At the Textile Seminar 2015, organized by the industries department, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the industry will always have a growth potential as demand for garment is never going to die down.

Karnataka comparing with the policies of Maharashtra and Gujarat has made some modification in its Javali Neethi (Textile Policy) 2013-18 with an aim to not only strengthen its textile value chain activities but also to spur technical textiles and go for an aggressive push for geographical distribution of textile and garment units.

The State is encouraging investments in almost all the sub-sectors of textile in the form of Textile Parks, Mega Projects, Integrated units and MSME units.

Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Department have been directed to finalise a policy for development of handicrafts and handlooms in Odisha within a month. The direction came at a meeting presided over by the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the Secretariat where he reviewed the activities of the department during the last one year.

As the setting up of a textiles park has already been delayed, the department is directed to select the location as early as possible.

India’s new national textiles policy is being finalized which aims to achieve USD 300 billion textiles exports by 2024-25 and envisages creation of additional 35 million jobs.

The Textiles Ministry has set up an expert committee headed by Ajay Shankar, member secretary, national manufacturing competitiveness council for review and revamp the textile policy 2000.

State Textile Minister Chandrakant Patil told the Legislative Assembly that the new textile policy would be unveiled soon that will address issues of high electricity tariff and also include measures such as cotton-to-garment-manufacturing at a single point for setting up textile units.

The focus of new textile policy would be also on setting up textile parks in Vidarbha and Marathwada. It's not only expected to reduce farmer suicides but also generate employment.

The new national textile policy is almost ready and is expected to be announced immediately after the Union Budget. Textile Commissioner Kiran Soni Gupta informed after inaugurating the 60th National Garment Fair organised by Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) in Mumbai.

The textile sector will get a new direction and a huge support from the new policy as it has outlined all the aspects - the vision, strategy and the action plan.

The Textile Ministry of Pakistan has called stakeholder for another meeting on Monday in order to have consultation with them on the textile policy.
