Lifestyle Pakistan expo ‘Alishan Pakistan’ coming up in India

After the encouraging response received from the first lifestyle exhibition held in New Delhi, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) will be organizing 2nd edition of Lifestyle Pakistan exhibition “Alishan Pakistan” from September 11-14 in New Delhi.

More than 150 participants are expected to show case their product at the event. The exhibition will showcase top quality of Pakistan’s textiles, including high-end designer wear, lawn, home textile, readymade garments, and fabric. Various furniture houses will also exhibit and sell their products.

Cotton prices changed marginally opening the week, yesterday. The US cotton futures closed down 0.05 per cent on the day with the benchmark December contract on ICE Futures at US cents 66.15 per pound, paring losses after sinking near the key support level of US cents 65.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stated that the government has decided to introduce plot system for industrial lands doing away with the system of selling plots on the basis of tender. She was addressing the media during her visit to the Industries Ministry on 24 August.

The PM stated: "Previously, the large industrial lands were being sold at very low price because of tender. People were submitting tenders for the sake of submitting it."

In response to its draft action plan for apparels sector brought out by the Union Ministry suggestions the CII (Tirupur district council), and Sripuram Trust (a body of textile sector representatives) has put up proposal for creation of a ‘Textile Bank,’ a separate policy for manmade fibres and polyester, a processing zone for dyeing sector, and direct marketing facilities for power loom weavers.

Pakistan weaving and spinning sector experienced drop in exports by 2pc in July

Pakistan’s all high power consuming sectors weaving and spinning registered a drop in exports by 2.37 percent in July due to power supply and instability prevailing in Pakistan. But the share of textiles in total exports of Pakistan has improved to 64 percent in July, according to textile trade body.

Japanese investors are showing interest in producing basic readymade garment products like pants and shirts. They have also assured of increasing garment imports from Bangladesh, which is strongly opposed by Bangladesh apparel manufacturers that there would be no foreign direct investment (FDI) in the country’s booming readymade sector, claiming that they are capable of manufacturing those, said Reaz bin Mahmood, vice-president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

Indian polyester yarn makers are witnessing drop in their margins by about 10-15 percent due to rise in raw material prices by Rs.10-15 a kg in the domestic market. In the domestic market, polyester yarn raw materials prices stand at Rs 115-120 a kg, against Rs 100 a kg three months ago. Prices in the international market stand at Rs 110 a kg.

Sri Lankan ongoing export push continue narrowing its trade deficit

Sri Lankan trade deficit for the six months ended June (1H’14) narrowed 20.1 percent to US $ 3.55 billion, driven by exports which grew by 16.8 percent YoY to Rs. 5.44 billion. However, the imports during 1H’14 edged down by only 1.2 percent YoY to US $ 8.99 billion.
