The 9th East Africa Trade Fair for this year, scheduled to take place in Mwanza, this year's event will be showcasing a wide range of businesses and products from across the East African member states.

The Chairman of the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (TCCIA) for Mwanza Region, Mr Elibariki Mmari, said that most of the East African companies mainly from Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya and host Tanzania have confirmed to take part this year, while almost all who participated last year have also shown interest to participate.

India has a trade deficit of about USD 37 billion with the neighbouring country to overcome this and help boost India’s export; FIEO an apex exporter’s body today put forward a proposal for a free agreement (FTA) with China. In fact, India should resume the FTA with the European Union too.

According to FIEO President Rafeeq Ahmed, India will benefit by entering into FTA with China. The government should not hesitate to talk about this. If Thailand can have an FTA with China, India should also seriously look at this.

Bangladesh govt to take up Tk 105 cr project to produce 7 lakh bales of cotton a year

At present Bangladesh produces only 1 lakh bales of cotton, which meets only 2-3 percent of the garment industry's demand. To meet the growing demand of the garment industry, currently the government has to spend around $4.5 billion a year to import cotton.

The Bangladeshi government has taken up a Tk 105 crore project to increase raw cotton production, as only 3 percent of which is now collected from local producers.
