AfDB through Fashionomics Africa moving textile and clothing value chain

The African Development Bank (AfDB) through Fashiononmics, a vertitable platform aims to support the growth of the African textile and fashion sectors through a focus on building the capacities of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the textile and clothing sector, especially for women and youth.

This is a platform through which they are able to actually tap into manufacturers, into creatives, other designers that they would like to collaborate with, or even just merely fabric manufacturers that could actually assist them in the growth of their brands.

Incentive announced for textile sector to boost exports

The textile sector in Pakistan had remained stagnant over the last decade due to a number of exogenous and indigenous factors. Under the Pakistan textile policy (2015-19), incentive of Rs 64.15 billion cash subsidy to the textile and clothing sector has been announced which would boost the exports to $ 26 billion by 2019. The incentive package carries special duty-drawback rates, duty exemption on plants and machinery and subsidy on long-term loans.

The Textile and clothing sector has around eight schedule employment (under the Minimum Wages Act) such as cotton ginning, pressing and waste cotton industry, handloom and weaving industry, handloom silk weaving industry, hosiery manufactory, powerloom industry, silk twisting industry, tailoring industry and apprentices in textile mills.

Besides this, there are many industrial establishments engaged in the manufacture of knitted and woven garments and made-ups (home furnishings). Some of them cater to both – the domestic and export markets.

Government working out plans to set up 25 more textile parks in India

Union Minister of State for Textiles Santhosh Kumar Gangwar on Sunday at the 25th year celebrations of the Tirupur Exporters’ Association announced that the Government is planning to announce 25 more textile parks shortly to provide high quality infrastructure for the textiles and clothing sector.

These 25 projects are to be from the 49 proposals received now before the Ministry, seeking approvals for setting up the textile parks. The applications are being examined.
