Innovation hubs Fashion for Good and The Mills Fabrica have teamed up with the C&A Foundation to launch an investment fund that will aim to “spearhead systemic change in the apparel and footwear supply chain”.

The Good Fashion Fund has launched with initial funding of $13 million, but has a target of quickly attracting new investors and raising the size of the fund to $60 million . It will be managed by specialist Amsterdam-based investment firm Fount.

Novetex Textiles has opened The Billie System, its new Tai Po textile mill, the first in Hong Kong in over half a century. A key component of this mill is a waterless system which upcycles textile waste.

The system is almost entirely automated, and able to process up to three tonnes of recycled fibre per day, which according to Novetex can be further blended with virgin material to produce yarn for various products and garments.

Sappi North America, a producer and supplier of diversified paper and packaging products, has announced a $5.94 million capital investment in its Cloquet, Minn., mill to replace the headbox on Paper Machine 12 (PM12).

This investment enabled Sappi to maintain its capacity by adding a state-of-the-art, dilution profiled headbox(an integral part of the paper machine responsible for spreading the pulp fibers evenly to form the sheet) that produces excellent basis weight profiles.

Swift trading activity was witnessed at the Pakistan cotton market

As mills and spinners took interest in fresh buying to cover their immediate needs some swift trading was witnessed on the cotton market on Wednesday. In ready session, approximately 15000 bales of cotton changed hands between Rs 5350-5550, however, prices of seed cotton in Sindh and Punjab dropped modestly to Rs 2650-2700. The official spot rate increased further by Rs.75 to Rs5375.
 

Trading at cotton market continued to remain dull

With most of raw cotton and textile business moving at a slow pace, activity in the cotton economy is said to be close to a standstill. At ready cotton market conditions continued to remain dull, though a few sales of ready cotton took place, but several mills were also unloading their cotton stocks.

Textile mills aver that their cost of production has shot up due to increases in cost of power, gas and labour wages. Not many credible reports were being received regarding any cotton import activity by the mills.
