Tajikistan to support textile and clothing industry

Tajikistan is also successfully executing the International Trade Center (ITC) program, targeted at supporting the development of the textile and clothing industry and improving the quality management infrastructure. A complete production cycle was organized, including the production of raw materials, spinning, fabric manufacturing, and the manufacture of garments and carpets, in the middle of the last century. The main products are fabrics and garments made from them, denim pants, shorts, textiles, carpet and leather products.

With the domestic production of textiles at $110 billion and exports and trade at $40 billion, the country's production of textiles at present is worth $150 billion. The Textile Ministry is targeting to double textile production and trade to $300 billion by 2025, said Textile Commissioner Kavita Gupta on Friday.

Turkmenistan textile industry is on the way to a new stage of development as it plans to hold an international exhibition in Ashgabat on June 4-5, 2016, said the message from the event's organizers, Turkmenistan's Ministry of Textile Industry and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry May 31.

The textile industry holds an important place in Turkmenistan's economy as it traditionally grows cotton which is a basis for ensuring the development of the textile industry.

This year, it’s planned to collect 1.05 million tons of cotton from an area of 545 hectares in Turkmenistan.

Tajik cotton farmers focusing on increasing its cotton yields for which they are trying out more productive foreign seeds, even as it reduces the acreage devoted to the water-intensive crop.

In the interest of crop diversity and due to ecological concerns, the country's farmers have reduced the farmland planted under cotton by more than 26,000ha to 177,624ha between 2011 and 2014. Over the same period, nationwide cotton production dropped from 415,000 tonnes to 372,000 tonnes per year.

Uzbeklegprom State JSC has planned a five year project from 2015-2020 to increase domestic processing of cotton fiber for which the company will direct about US$1 billion and decrease its exports in line with the concept of developing light industry in Uzbekistan, the head of the Uzbeklegprom main department Dilbar Makhmudova told on Sept. 5.

A development program concept for the next five year was developed by Uzbekyengilsanoat in cooperation with several ministries and departments.

Cotton prices dwindling on change in China policy, higher crop yield globally

On the outlook that China will start releasing its huge reserves of cotton fiber, and on forecasts of weakening demand for apparel in key markets around the world, there is have been a drop in spot cotton prices since the beginning of July.

The seven-market U.S. average spot price has declined by almost $0.06 in the first two weeks of July, 7 percent below its price at the end of June and $0.17 (20 percent) below the recent high it reached in early May.
