Final negotiation for FTA concluded between Vietnam and Custom Union

The final negotiation accord towards a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) was signed between Vietnam and the Custom Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan on Monday announcing the conclusion of the negotiation . Vietnam Prime Minister, Nguyen Tan Dung witnessed the signing of joint declaration.

The custom Union will give Vietnam preferential tariffs and create favorable conditions to introduce into their markets agricultural, aquatic, wood, footwear, garment and textiles of the Indochinese country.

Japan’s Fukui plans investing in garment and functional textile industry in Thailand

Japan’s Fukui prefectural government plans to invest in the garment and functional textiles industry to expand its business in Thailand for which they have entered into an agreement with Thailand's Industry Ministry, said Arthit Wuthikaro, the ministry's director-general for the development of industrial promotion.

The total value of investment from Fukui in Thailand amounts to 10 billion baht with 28 companies operating 11 factories.

Mombasa Apparels EPZ factory worth $25 million (Sh2.2b) located in Mtwapa, Kilifi County commenced operations last week. The new factory received backing of an investor in the textile manufacturing sector which will manufacture garments for the international market.

Speaking during the official opening of the new factory, Industrialisation and Enterprise Development Cabinet Secretary Adan Mohamed, said that the facility has already created 3,000 direct jobs with a potential to create another 4,000 jobs in its second phase of development.

Ethiopia’s export revenue from textile products has witnessed augmentation during the Growth and Transformation Plan period, but with lower pace, the Textiles Industry Development Institute (TIDI) said.

The country's revenue from textile export which was 62.2 million USD in 2003E.C has reached 111 million USD last fiscal year.

Cotton and textile industry play a significant role in Zimbabweans economic growth and development. The International Trade Centre (ITC) a joint agency of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and United Nations (UN) made an announcement that Zimbabwe will be launching the Cotton-to-Clothing (C2C) Export Strategy at an indaba in Bulawayo next week

The strategy is funded by the European Union (EU) under the EU-Africa partnership on cotton. The indaba will be held on September 26

Vietnam textile and garment companies faces shortage of orders this year

Vietnam garment companies at this time last, around 80 to 90 percent of production plans was fulfilled for 50-60 percent of enterprises, while this year the figure is only 25-30 percent. Very few companies have orders for the fourth quarter of the year.

According to the chair of the HCM City Textile, Garment, Embroidery and Knitting Association, Pham Xuan Hong, many member companies of the association still needed orders.
 

Indian textile market to see strong growth with the government support

Textile & Apparel sector in India is an important contributor to the national economy in terms of direct and indirect employment generation and net foreign exchange earnings, contributing 4% to India’s GDP in 2012, the sector has also attracted direct foreign investments worth USD 1.11 billion from April 2000 to February 2014.
 
Currently, the overall textile and apparel sector accounts for about 24% of world’s spindle capacity and 8% of global rotor capacity and is expected to touch USD 223 billion by 2021.
