Govt. initiatives propel Indian textile industry in home textile

Indian Texpreneurs Federation (ITF), a textile industry body in the region has estimated the size of global home textile market to be of 96 Billion USD. It has chance to likely follow an upward trend as the global technical textile market is expected to reach US$ 193 billion in revenues in 2020.

Egypt’s once-thriving textile manufacturing sector has weakened over past decades with its outdated machinery from the 1950s used in state-owned companies. Egypt has signed deal with US-based Werner International to restructure 25 state-owned textile companies said Investment minister Ashraf Salman on Thursday.

Ahmed Moustafa, head of the state-owned Holding Company for Textiles said that the restructuring will begin in February and will take 43 weeks to complete.

Mombasa Apparels EPZ factory worth $25 million (Sh2.2b) located in Mtwapa, Kilifi County commenced operations last week. The new factory received backing of an investor in the textile manufacturing sector which will manufacture garments for the international market.

Speaking during the official opening of the new factory, Industrialisation and Enterprise Development Cabinet Secretary Adan Mohamed, said that the facility has already created 3,000 direct jobs with a potential to create another 4,000 jobs in its second phase of development.
