VAT dept raids eight textile mills over fake invoices

Eight textile dyeing and printing mills in the city's Sachin and Pandesara GIDC were held for claiming input tax credit (ITC) on fake tax invoices and thereby reducing their liability to pay VAT by the VAT department of state government on Friday.

Under the VAT system, bogus dealers (dealers who take registration on wrong credentials and then disappear) issue fake tax invoices on the strength of which genuine dealers claim input tax credit and reduce their VAT liability. Now, the VAT department has tightened the noose on such mill owners. A huge ITC racket is likely to be unearthed.

Zambian handloom weaver received training at the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT) in Salem on textile design, block printing, use of sophisticated handlooms and quality management. During the training period of two month they also visited several handloom cluster sites in Tamil Nadu. The programme, which was facilitated by the International Trade Centre (ITC), was backed by the Indian government's Ministry of Textiles as well as the IIHT.

The Zambian women weavers began the week by participating in Origin Africa, the largest cotton, textile and apparel event on the continent, which aims to raise awareness of Africa as a business and sourcing destination in the sector. It is organized by the African Cotton and Textile Industries Federation (ACTIF).

Seven women weavers of Zambia participated in back-to-back events in Nairobi, Kenya, showcasing their products, learning new production and business techniques, and meeting with potential customers and investors .

Cotton and textile industry play a significant role in Zimbabweans economic growth and development. The International Trade Centre (ITC) a joint agency of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and United Nations (UN) made an announcement that Zimbabwe will be launching the Cotton-to-Clothing (C2C) Export Strategy at an indaba in Bulawayo next week

The strategy is funded by the European Union (EU) under the EU-Africa partnership on cotton. The indaba will be held on September 26

Tajik textile and clothing industry gets assistance from ITC to improve productivity and quality

The International Trade Center has been making efforts to assist the Tajik textile and clothing industry to increase its export performance in the global market. As part of its endeavor two seminars were organized on Productivity, Profitability and Competitiveness for the textile and clothing industry in Khujand and Dushanbe.
