A two days exhibition of Indian textiles was held to strengthen the trade between India and Ethiopia at the Sheraton Addis Hotel where 20 Indian textile companies participated in the exhibition by displaying their products for buyers.

The event was organized by Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectorial Association (ECCSA) along with Embassy of India and the Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Promotion Council and it was opened on Wednesday, August 13, 2014.

Bangladesh's exports to China in the recent years has been growing steadily which the trade circle consider that it might become a major turning point in boosting exports to one of the most lucrative global destinations. A meeting was held between President, Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) and Vice-President Turkish Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry to discuss various business promotion aspects as Turkish businessmen showed keen interest to promote Kashmir handicraft back home. Trading in major stations of Punjab and Sindh remained range-bound with growing demand for fine grades, while prices of all grades remained cost-effective. Spinners bought all grades on cautious note besides deals for selective lots in order to build up their inventories on Tuesday.

But at some leading centres dull trading was seen due to political crisis, power crisis at textile units and ginneries, grade issue and liquidity problems to buyers.

The online apparel retail and fashion segments in India having gathered steam in recent months, Textile manufacturer Arvind Limited on Tuesday announced its entry into the e-commerce space to keep pace with the increasing growth of online shopping. It has set up a subsidiary called Arvind Internet Limited (AIL), in Bangalore which will anchor all the company’s e-commerce initiatives to create a firm footing in the e-commerce space. The firm has a 50-member team at AIL.

A co-operative of local cotton growers have got green signal from the Murrumbidgee Shire Council to build a $24 million cotton gin. It has been given permission to produce 150,000 bales of lint cotton.

The state-of-the-art facility will be capable of producing 60 bales per hour and have the capacity to boost its output to 100 bales per hour if demand increases, putting it on par with the two biggest gins in Australia.

With demand for Bangladesh jute products gaining momentum in both national and international markets, the Jute Protection Committee shows concern over the Mandatory Jute Packaging Act 2010 not yet implemented properly even four years after the act came into being.

They observed that the implementation of the act is not up to the mark to make the industry viable. More subsidiaries are needed to mobilise the sector as the demands for jute products are on the rise nationally and internationally.
