Pak govt hope Brexit to have zero or nominal impact on its textile exports

Pakistan Ministry of Textile officials believe that although Britain has announced exit from the EU, it will have zero or nominal impact on Pakistan’s textile exports as British Prime Minister will step down in October, and from October it will take another two years to complete the process, the actual process will be long.

They are hopeful that in around two and half years time Pakistan will find some way to have a free trade agreement with Britain, same like EU.

Pakistan Ministry of Textile is all set to restart cotton hedging in order to get ride of market uncertainty and to cover the risk of cotton price fluctuation after its approval in the new textile policy 2014-19.

Ministry of Textile would soon call a meeting, in which representatives of Karachi Cotton Association (KCA), ginners association and growers would be taken into confidence and their proposals or objections would be noted.

Pakistan Ministry of Textiles is seeking funding for eight new projects in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) budget for the 2015-16. Faisalabad Garment city is another project which would be discussed in CDWP, as it is a textile infrastructure project whereby state of the art infrastructure would be developed . The cost of the project is estimated to be Rs.598.500 million.

According to the documents the ministry claims that this project would help garments manufacturers in boosting value addition to textile related exports.

The Pakistan Ministry of Textile is ready with its new textile policy 2014-15 having future strategy for the industry and also comprises a plan to facilitate smaller units for the economic development of the country. The new textile policy is set to be announced in the first week of September.

Kanwar Usman, the spokesperson for the ministry, said that the policy will be comprehensive and an amount of Rs82 billion has been allocated for the ministry in the budget this year.
