With the decline of cotton supply to textile units vis-a vis demonetization, the jute supply is also following a similar trend. The supply of raw jute to mills estimated a disruption in the sourcing of Rs 4,000-crore worth of the fibre from rural and secondary markets in the absence of a payment arrangement.

The Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) will not be transformed into a holding company. The proposal given by finance ministry for turning the BJMC into a holding company has been called off.
 
State Minister for Textiles and Jute Mirza Azam offered the clarification, quashing a finance ministry proposal, at the session dedicated to the textiles and jute ministry at of DCs’ (deputy commissioner) conference in Dhaka.
 

Jute mill owners concerned over decision on reopening mill

After the meeting held by parliamentary secretary (labour) Tapan Dasgupta, Victoria mill president R.K. Singh “reluctantly” agreed to reopen the factory in Chandernagore, which was closed down since June 17 following alleged despoilment by the labourers on the premises.

Ten employees of Victoria Jute Mill were suspended after they allegedly caused damage to equipment on the premises. But, the workers claimed that a colleague on night duty had fallen ill and were yet asked to continue working.

BD MoC takes up the initiative to increase export markets for jute and jute goods

The Bangladeshi ministry of commerce (MoC) takes the initiative of not only increasing exports of jute and jute products to the international market but to expand its export markets. As its export earnings from jute and jute goods has dropped by more than 30 per cent during the period July-January of the current fiscal year. It earned only US$ 592 million against US$ 646 million during the same period in the last FY.
