PH garments exports to see increase by at least 15pc this year

With Philippine’s recent inclusion in the European Union’s new generalized system of preferences (GSP+), garments manufacturers expect their export earnings to increase by as much as 15 percent this year, said the Philippine Exporters Confederation Inc.

The granting of GSP+ status to the Philippines will allow local companies to export more than 6,200 product lines at zero duty. These include some of the country’s most important exports such as textiles and footwear.

The Central government’s move to set up a textile park in Tamil Nadu, particularly in Tirupur has been opposed by the Vellore Citizens Welfare Forum (VCWF) on the grounds that the cluster would worsen the already serious problem of pollution caused by the dyeing units in Tirupur.

Scottish fashion designers encouraged to reduce textile waste

The Circular Economy Textiles and Apparel Grant Fund was launched last November to encourage textile and fashion designers in Scotland to apply for funding from Zero Waste Scotland to help them reduce textile waste.

Zero Waste Scotland hopes that the fund will encourage Scottish designers to adopt sustainable design methods, such as zero-waste pattern design.

The organization also hopes that designers will produce clothes that can be easily disassembled and repurposed and use closed-loop textiles made from recycled materials.

Pakistan government is yet to clear refunds worth Rs50 billion for textile exporters under the duty drawback scheme, accumulating till October 2014. The delay in releasing the outstanding tax and duty drawback could further weaken the sector’s ability to export and also reduce their profitability.
Pakistan’s textile industry has been looking forward to a full refund of export tax rebates as early as possible.

United Kingdom High Commissioner Philip Barton addressing the business community at Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) in Faisalabad on Monday emphasized that the local business community need to play dynamic role to augment Pak-UK bilateral trade to 3 billion pounds by end of 2015.

Mr Barton said that more than 100 British companies were already working in Pakistan, adding that he would strive to convince others to come and invest in Pakistan.

He also expressed satisfaction over the increase in Pakistani exports to European Union after the grant of GSP Plus status.

They are also installing compact yarn spinning systems in their Greenfield project as well as for expansion. According to K Selvaraju, secretary general, Southern India Mills' Association (SIMA), mills are opting for retrofits as the costs are lower and weaving units are opting for faster air jet looms.
