Transporters, processors urged to reduce charges to make Surti fabrics cost effective

The textile traders of Surat's wholesale market to make Surti fabrics more cost-effective for the end consumers across the country have urged the transporters and textile processors to reduce their charges In order to capitalize on dwindling oil and polyester yarn prices.

They have been facing a tough time for the past few month with the supply of fabrics in value terms decreasing by almost 30 percent due to dwindling demand from the key markets such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Punjab, Chandigarh, Chennai etc.

Trading activities were down as ginners not ready to lower prices

With Pakistani ginners not lowering prices of fine quality and the official spot rate remaining unchanged at Rs 4,850, no visible change was seen in the present outlook on the cotton market on Thursday.

Trading activity came down as ginners were not ready to oblige the mills because rates offered by mills were not matching with their psychological levels. Cotton analyst, Naseem Usman said that overall sluggish trend in the world market is also an adding factor behind the falling business.

Mali, Africa's third biggest gold producer behind South Africa and Ghana, also counts cotton as one of its main exports. The head of the state-owned textile development firm CMDT on Thursday said that Mali plans to produce 800,000 tonnes of unginned cotton per year by 2018 after output surged by more than a quarter in the 2014/15 season on the back of improved farm inputs.

The government increased input subsidies and lowered the price of fertilizers, this significant grant from the state gave a lot of momentum to cotton production.

Considering the potential that the industry has in the State, the Ministry is keen on setting up a textile park here that would help the arts and its artisans, the Union Textile Minister, Santosh Kumar Gangwar said after inaugurating ‘Design Sutra’, a national workshop on promotion of handloom and fashion at National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in the Capital City.

GSP plus status boosted Pakistan’s exports to EU from $5.3b to $6.38b in 2014

Pakistan’s exports to the European Union during the first 10 months (Jan-Oct) of 2014 advanced by 20 percent to $6.38 billion compared to the same period last year’s $5.3 billion was disclosed by Commerce Minister Khurram Dastagir during a seminar.

Dastagir said that the preferential tariff scheme boosted export of textile, leather goods, footwear and plastic products.

Pakistan’s textile exports to the EU increased from to $4.4bn from $3.6bn. The exports of garments grew by 28percent, home textiles by 30percent and towels by 23percent.
