Cotton trading in Pakistan remained slow with selected buying in quality cotton

Cotton trading in Pakistan remained slow as textile mill owners made select buying in quality cotton. However, the Karachi Cotton Association’s (KCA) spot rates remained unchanged.

Floor brokers said that the textile industry, already facing power and gas shortage, was perplexed by Indian yarn and raw cotton finding their way into the domestic market. Local traders are likely to buy the cheaper Indian cotton. The situation kept trade activities slow at local markets.

The ninth edition of Texfair, an exhibition of textile machinery spares and accessories, and the second edition of Farm to Finish, an exhibition of textile products started off at the Codissia Trade Fair Complex organized by Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA). The event is on for four days from January 9.

At the inaugural of Texfair 2015, Prem Malik, chairman of Confederation of Indian Textile Industry, said that one of the main areas that the Indian textile industry needs to focus on is diversifying to man-made fibre-based textile products.

India plans to set up minimum 15 textile parks to improve textile industry

The new Developing Countries (DC) Preference implemented by the Australian Government started on 1st January this eases the way for duty free entry to Australian market. Under this new system, it allows Fijian TCF manufacturers and exporters to source raw materials including wool products from more cost effective sources outside the region such as China, Bangladesh, India, Thailand and Vietnam and include it in the calculation of local content and then convert these into finished garments for duty free export into Australia.

Cotton Corporation of India to sell cotton from 15 January

Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) which is mandated to procure cotton at minimum support price will start selling cotton from 15 January 2015. According to M. M. Chockalingam, CCI director (marketing) told the Corporation had so far purchased 40 lakh bales. It plans to offload 10,000 bales every day and measures would be taken to ensure there was no fluctuation in prices.

According to an Afghan news agency India is all set to assist in developing the textile industry of Afghanistan as part of its reconstruction efforts aimed at rebuilding the Afghan economy. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed 7 January between the Ministry of Commerce and Industries of Afghanistan and Ministry of Textiles of India on expansion of business cooperation in the field of textiles and clothing. The MoU was signed by Afganistan’s acting minister of commerce and industries, Muzamil Shenwari, and Indian Ambassador to Afghanistan, Amar Sinha.

CCI picked up 41 lakh cotton bales from key growing state at MSP this year

State-run Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) to protect farmers from sharp decline in domestic prices has picked up 41 lakh bales of 170 kg each so far this year at the minimum support price ( MSP) from key growing states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Maharashtra.

Of which 27 lakh bales of cotton have been purchased from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, 7,00,000 bales from Maharashtra, 2,20,000 bales from Gujarat and around 2,00,000 bales from Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. The procurement operations was started by CCI from October 2014

India to provide all necessary support in developing Afghani textile industry

The commitment was made at the time of signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Commerce and Industries of Afghanistan and Indian Ministry of Textiles on Wednesday.
