At the Texfair 2017 and Farm to Finish Expo, a four-day event organised by Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA), an event for textile machinery, spares and accessories was inaugurated by Sanjay Jayavarthanavelu, Chairman and Managing Director of Lakshmi Machine Works, here on Friday.

At the inaugural, he said that the textile industry should work towards addressing the challenges that come with changing trends and it should invest in technology, especially post spinning technology, to grow further.

LMW finds southern markets attractive for its range of products

Lakshmi Machine Works, major textile machinery manufacturer and the only company in Asia outside Europe to manufacture OE products for Mikron of Switzerland feels that southern markets are attractive market for its range of products.

According to R Rajendran, Chief Financial Officer and Director (Finance), LMW, more than 40 percent of their textile machinery sale is in the south zone. While new projects are slow in coming and Greenfield projects even fewer in number, the existing mills are doing well and going for marginal expansion/ modernisation.

Textiles technical institute set up provide training for workers

Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA) and PSG Institutions have set up textile technical training institute where they have started offering training courses for fitters. The training institute would be offering short, medium and long-term courses.

Initially, it was offering four days’ training for fitters and it covered all machinery, accessories and equipment.

As the textile industry was facing acute shortage of manpower for mechanical, electrical and electronic maintenance.

A large number of spinning mills in the region are increasingly opting to upgrade their units to produce compact yarn through retrofits. They are also installing compact yarn spinning systems in their Greenfield project as well as for expansion. According to K Selvaraju, secretary general, Southern India Mills' Association (SIMA), mills are opting for retrofits as the costs are lower and weaving units are opting for faster air jet looms.

With customers’ needs becoming more explicit on yarn quality requirements to meet the end-users’ demands. Lakshmi Machine Works (LMW) Textile machinery manufacturing major has introduced a compact spinning system which can improve the efficiency of loom by 10 per cent.

The new compact spinning system helps compacting or condensing minimises the width and height of the spinning triangle. Fibres align more uniformly with less hairiness and uniform twist flows.
