It’s hard to make predictions about ‘Mother Nature’ and often, that’s the consequence for farmers.

During planting season, right up until harvest season, many cotton farmers have high hopes for a good crop.

With the recent strong winds and rain, many cotton farmers are now 2 months behind schedule.

The high winds we received in the Coastal Bend beginning April 10th caused significant damage to cotton in the seedling stage, and now some area cotton farmers are replanting for a second time.

According to CSIRO, in 1995 synthetics made up around half of the global fibre market. By 2015, this had risen to 77%. The researchers have first worked on better understanding what determines the length, strength and thickness of cotton fibres. They are doing this by growing a range of different cotton plants, some with long, thin fibres and others with short, woolly fibres.

A spokesman for the department said that mulching method must be adopted to keep the temperature of land moderate and as it also helps in minimum wastage of water from land and he also suggested the growers that big plants should be watered with an interval of 10 to 12 days while small plants five to six days.

Punjab Agriculture Department has advised fruit growers to ensure proper care of fruit plants during the hot weather to get good quality fruit.
