J&K working out strategy to set up Textile Park on HMT factory land

The Industries Department has been directed by the Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to work out the strategy of establishing proposed Textile Park at a portion of HMT Factory land as it has stopped its functioning for a long time now.
 
The industries department has been urged to pursue the matter on fast track so that action on setting up of a Textile Park for the local entrepreneurs is taken up as early as possible.

The GSP Plus status granted to Pakistan by the European Union (EU) has boost textile export, a rise of 5.3 percent reaching the figure to $13.74 billion during last fiscal year (July 2013 to June 2014), as compared to $13.05 billion of the preceding year (July 2012 to June 2013), according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) latest figures released on Wednesday.

The surge in spinning machinery import witnessed in Pakistan. Although the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association claims that around 100 spinning mills in the country have closed down as the spinning industry is facing acute power and energy shortage.
 
But spinning industry in Pakistan has registered the highest addition of spindles in the past six years, adding 546,000 spindles during 2013, according the International Textile Machinery Federation (ITMF).

With a revival in the monsoon, sowing area under cotton although has intensified yet the overall sowing area under cotton was 44 percent lower at 5.6 million hectares (ha) as on July 18, compared with 10 million ha as on the corresponding date last year.
 
India's cotton output is likely to hit a five-year low in the resultant crop year 2014-15 (October-September), due to a steep decline in sowing area on delayed and uneven distribution of monsoon rains because of the El Niño phenomenon. Sowing of cotton was delayed by over a month this year.

Textile parks will spell kismet for weavers in Kurnool
