Ruyi Group losing interest in the Quaid-e-Azam apparel park project

The Shandong Ruyi Group, a joint venture between Chinese and foreign investors headed by Qiu Yafu, is a hi-tech enterprise, who were planning to invest immensely in the Quaid-e-Azam Apparel Park, a project of the Punjab government is losing interest in the project.
 
Despite several meetings held by its Director Arie Qiu, daughter of the owner with the Punjab chief minister to discuss investment, the company has not yet come up with proposals to demonstrate its interest in the project.

There are at least 800 dyeing, bleaching and fabric printing units in Erode, Komarapalayam and Pallipalayam areas according to Association of All Textile Processes, Erode and Namakkal districts. The state government is planning to explore the possibility of replicating the zero liquid discharge formula and Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) for the dyeing and bleaching units functioning in Erode, an attempt to prevent river Cauvery going the Noyyal way.

Swisscontact, a Zurich-based organization have joined hands with Bangladesh Jute Research Institute (BJRI) and the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) for promotion of improved jute cultivation and retting practices by signing a two-year tripartite agreement.
 
Manish Pandey, regional director for South Asia and country director for Bangladesh of Swisscontact; and Md Kamal Uddin, director general of BJRI; and Md Abu Hanif Miah, director general of the DAE, signed the agreement yesterday.

Cotton import is likely to double at 1.5 million bales (a bale is 170 kg) in the current cotton year (October 2013-September 2014), as compared to 0.7 million bales the previous year, due to the higher prices in the domestic market than abroad, according to the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI).
 
The benchmark Shankar-6 variety is trading at Rs 11,642 a quintal, in comparison with the landed cost in southern ports at Rs 11,000 a quintal.

According to Textile Mills Association (BTMA), the country imported 236 million kilograms (kgs) of cotton yarn and 289 million kgs of woven fabrics in the last fiscal. The import figures were 240-million-kg yarn and 295-million-kg fabrics in the previous year.
