Switzerland pushing Pakistan to augment exports of textile and agri products

Pakistan and Switzerland are facing bilateral trade deficit, despite enormous trade potential between Pakistan and Switzerland. Consul General of Switzerland Emil Wyss during his visit to Pakistan Chemical & Dyes Merchants Association encouraged the Pakistani business community to augment the exports of textile and agriculture products to Switzerland.

Cotton farmers seeking higher MSP from govt to recover their expenses

The state government has starting cotton purchases from November 15 onwards at minimum support price (MSP)wards but this will not provide relief to farmers who have suffered a double whammy of poor yield due to dry spell and plummeting rates. Cotton farmers are looking at a rate of at least Rs.6000 a quintal which will help them recover their expenses. This time, with elections over there is no political demand to raise the MSP that is rather low.

Dinh Vu Polyester Plant that is owned 81 percent by the state oil and gas company Petrovietnam Group and balance 19 percent of the plant by Vietnam’s top garment maker Vinatex, to triple yarn output to 75,000 tonnes by year-end to better meet domestic demand.

With capacity to produce 175,000 tonnes of fibre per year, the plant is able to supply around 40 percent of raw material needed for the Vietnamese textile industry, saving approximately $ 400 million per year on imports of foreign made fibre, as well as providing jobs to nearly 700 people.

Indian synthetic fibre producers demand neutral excise duty structure

Producer of Synthetic fibre in India have urged the government to remove bias and anomalies in excise duty structure against the man-made fibre industry as it has been affecting the growth and impeding from achieving a larger share of the global market. At present India’s share in global exports of value-added textiles of MMFs is just about 3 percent.

They want the government to bring down excise duty on par with cotton fibre and yarn for growth of the Indian textile sector.

Pakistan exports during the first four months of the current fiscal year declined by about 5.2 per cent, compared to the same period last year as large-scale manufacturing output remained flat at 4.2pc against 4.3pc, according to the finance minister.

The water and power ministry directed all electricity distribution companies (Discos) to immediately implement the plan for full uninterrupted electricity supply to Punjab’s troubled textile industry as desired by the prime minister, who is in London on an official visit.

Bangladesh DoJ to take measures against rising jute prices despite dwindling exports

Escalation in raw jute prices were seen in the last two months in spite of slow-moving exports, supposing that production level would drop much below last year’s level. This has put pressure on public and private mills, already under pressure for dwindling export receipts.

At present, raw jute is trading at Tk 1,600-1,800 a maund (40 kilogram) in producing regions, which is 13 percent higher than last year.
