To improve the quality of cotton production in Pakistan, the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) on Friday. The MoU will supplement the efforts for mainstreaming production and consumption of BCI cotton in Pakistan.

The initiative also aims in achieving sustainability targets and increase the market access for textile products from Pakistan.

Aptma will be the Programme Promoting Agency within Pakistan to promote the initiative in line with the BCI’s Strategic Plan for the country.

Utex JSC and Melange JSC textile factories in south Kazakhstan to restore production

The textile industry of Kazakhstan has gone through a process of sharp cutback over the past decade. Baiterek National Managing Holding and its subsidiaries, Kazakhstan Investment Fund JSC and Development Bank of Kazakhstan JSC, together with akimat (regional executive) of South Kazakhstan district have found mechanism to put back textile factories in Symkent into working condition.

With the launch of Melange JSC and Utex JSC factories, yarn production capacity will reach 17.8 million metric tons per year, production capacity of finished fabrics - 8.4 million running meters a year.

Alok Industries, textile major is in view of raising Rs 2,000 crore by selling its UK retail chain, Store 21, and well as land in Mumbai, Vapi and Silvassa over the next two years for which investment bankers have been appointed.

At the moment, the company’s focus is selling all their non-core assets as they are in a consolidation phase and will not expand for at least the next three to four years, said Chief Financial Officer Sunil Khandelwal.

They also have plans to sell its land in Mumbai in the next six months and hope to raise at least Rs 300 crore from this sale.

The administration in Sughd Oblast, Tajikistan, is disbursing loans and grants to help train women for income-earning opportunities in the textile and handicrafts industry to boost its local eonomy.

As part of its effort to bring more jobs to the oblast, the administration gave two local enterprises loans totalling 200,000 TJS (US $39,300) for the establishment of handicraft teaching centres.
